FULL STEAM AHEAD!

As of 11:45 hours of todayΒ΄s date 23rd March 2016 we are delighted to announce that as a result of continued efforts to resolve some operational issues in line with the expectations of the ORR (Office of Road and Rail) the ORR have removed the prohibition notice that was imposed on 17th February 2016.

Our planned schedule for 2016 will go ahead, including the World famous Jacobite service from Fort William to Mallaig which starts on 9th May.

Passenger safety is our primary concern and all efforts to ensure the safe and smooth operation of all our services have been made.

WCR thank the ORR for their help and support over the recent weeks and look forward to an exciting season of great British rail tours.

Gasbag was a unique Sentinel engine with a very high pressure vertical coke fired boiler in the cab. It was achallenge as the injectors and pump were not reliable and the water level drops very fast if the safety valve lifts

Sadly George Hinchcliffe who was a friend and the manager at Steamtown from 1974 until the 1980's died unexpectedly yesterday.
He had a huge influence at Steamtown and across the world taking Flying Scotsman to The USA and bringing it back again etc etc. A fuller note will be added in due course

I thought you may be interested in this Hull Docks arrival, circa 1944 built War Department repatriation, I have just posted it on the group 'scarborough / whitby / hull/ york railways'.
A Hull Daily Mail clipping from the early 1970s. I have dated it using the advertisements on the reverse of the clipping.
The German engine clipping reverse has an advert for a jumble sale on 21 February, others say 1975 holidays will be honoured so will be late 1974 or early 1975. The text says it is destined for the Steam Town Railway Museum at Carnforth, Lancashire.
This morning FaceBook suggested this as something I might be interested in...
Does anyone know if this is French Pacific 231K22 being transferred away from Carnforth? Someone reckons the unit wasn't purchased until 1982/83 so would be too recent to be a photo of the loco' on its way to Steamtown.
Was it transferred elsewhere in the UK before being sold overseas? Now based in Augsburg, Germany, I understand.
Afternoon job yesterday which required a gutter vacuum/clear and a little bit of maintenance to the downpipes, so this is my client, the lovely John, his fact is that he once worked at the Steamtown Railway Museum Carnforth in Lancashire and painted the Flying Scotsman πŸš‚ before it went on a tour of Australia πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί, apparently an apple 🍏 green colour πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸšΏπŸšΏπŸ’ŽπŸ’Ž

Eddie Foster, my great uncle, this is the chap who greeted you on your arrival at steamtown back in the 1970's. After Eddie died, his final wish was to one last journey on his favourite loco the Flying Scotsman, eddies coffin was placed on a small wagon and the scotsman set off at walking pace with the mourners, including me, walking behind.
Earlier today I shared this photo with a couple of friends ....... we were talking about Flying Scotsman coming through Lincoln on Thursday .... this was me in the late 70's at Steamtown - so many happy memories.
Anyboday know which engine is running to do the santa special on sun 3rd Dec, Lancaster-Hellifield-Blackburn-Lancaster-Carnforth? Would be great to know guys, thanks
