On Thursday 25June - our new exhibition will be open until 8 O’clock at night!

Come and experience our weird, wonderful and whimsical new automata exhibition Tick Tock Marvels and have a go at some Dada drawing!

Dada was a protest movement by artists and poets who rejected logic - in favour of nonsense, anti-art and the absurd!

Come and be inspired by the automata on display and forget how to draw using playful prompts, random objects and unconventional techniques!

Drawing prompts, props and materials are included with admission, which is only a fiver or if you have an annual ticket - no cost at all!

It’s Refugee Week! And this year the theme is Courage to recognise the strength, resilience and contributions of people seeking safety.

We’re taking part this Saturday with a relaxing zine-making workshop ‘Zines for love and courage’ led by Mina Banisaeid.

Mina is known for her bold, expressive, intricate and colourful artwork, and together we’ll explore themes of love and courage – with mindful drawing, calligraphy and a backdrop of calming projections and music.

You’ll leave with a beautifully illustrative Zine / fold-out poster.

No experience needed – just curiosity, empathy and a willingness to create.

For ages 14+
Booking required - https://tullie.org.uk/events/zines-for-love-and-courage/

All materials and light refreshments provided.

There’s also a carnival this weekend + some other themed workshops and activities organised by Afrikana CIC Carlisle College, PINC LGBT+ Youth - Pride in North Cumbria, Multicultural Cumbria, Carlisle Refugee Action Group page, Carlisle One World Centre

We're thankful for our volunteers every single day, but especially on Volunteers' Week. This week we've given each of our volunteers a box of treats as thanks and put on some film screenings for them in the Auditorium.

Our team of over 170 volunteers are absolutely essential to the day-to-day running of the museum. They bring visitors' experiences to life on the galleries, help keep the garden looking stunning, assist in documenting the collections and even put on tours.

Here's just a few of their lovely faces. Be sure to say hello next time you visit. 👋

Is Percy Kelly Cumbria's most famous postie? (Postman Pat doesn’t count)

Just announced for Tuesday 30 June, join author Alan Cleaver for a talk on his latest book The Postal Paths: Rediscovering Britain’s Forgotten Trails And The People Who Walked Them. Alan will focus on the extraordinary postal routes of rural Cumbria where postmen and women walked — and sometimes cycled — up to 20 miles a day across some of the county’s most beautiful yet challenging terrain.

Our curators will also be setting up a display of works by major Cumbrian artist (and former postie!) Percy Kelly in the Reading Room to be viewed before or after Alan's talk.

Event runs 1-4pm, with talk starting at 2pm.

Tickets £8 (£6 for Tullie Friends)
