Blink and you just might regret it!
Situated 6 miles from Cardiff and 5 miles from Pontypridd, Fagins Craft Beer House & Art Cafe offers one of Wales’ unique pub experiences. It lies under the gaze of the iconic Garth mountain which was the inspiration for the film ‘The Englishman who went up a hill and came down a Mountain’ which was written and directed by Chris Monger who grew up in the village and whose Grandfather’s stories inspired him to make the film.
Be careful not to blink when you pass it though, as it’s snuggly nestled within a terraced row on the main road at the northern end of the village. The characteristic charm of the pub centres around the timeless oak wood beams, flagstone flooring and the all-embracing log burner which bellows out an embracing warmth to help create an atmosphere and ambience that more modern designed pubs simply can’t match - and that’s before you get started on the beer! Anne and Simon have put together one of the most extensive and sublime ranges of craft beer offerings in rural Wales boasting a choice of around twenty-five draught beers, ales, ciders & lagers.
Selecting from the delights of nearly 60 different breweries throughout the year, you can choose such classics as Punk PA, Gamma Ray, Old Rosie & Thatchers Gold ciders, Peroni, Afghan Pale Ale, Mr Mojo and of course - Mikey Rayer (a splendid Welsh rugby full-back who played for Cardiff & Wales) - which acts as a splendid synonym for ‘an all dayer’! You’ll find a diverse clientele sipping the wares and if you do your homework, don’t miss the music gigs which feature some outstanding Welsh talent creating an intimate atmosphere that packs the place out.
What else makes Fagins different from other pubs in the area? Well… to augment the established restaurant menu, the latest developments include a dedicated café bar and service which is designed to serve the needs of not only the local community, but also the many walkers and cyclists who visit the area to visit the variety of local attractions which include Nantgarw Pottery, Castell Coch, Fforest Fawr, Craig y Allt, Garth mountain and of course, the Taff’s Well Spa Well from which the village gets its name and the only thermal spring in the whole of Wales.
