Located in the former Engineering Workshops of the enormous Dinorwig Slate Quarry – we tell the astounding story of the Welsh slate industry – ‘the most Welsh of Welsh industries’ - from its craftmanship to its communities! Enjoy slate splitting demonstrations with our experienced quarrymen and watch the blacksmith at work, marvel at the largest waterwheel on mainland Britain and visit the Quarrymen’s houses which show life in 3 key time periods of the industry; 1861 at its start, 1901 during the Penrhyn Lockout and 1969 when Dinorwig quarry was finally closed. Our entry is FREE to all thanks to funding from the Welsh Government.
