Explore the extraordinary story of the Polish resistance fighters who rose up against German occupation in Warsaw in 1944.

Curated by the Polish Underground Movement Study Trust, in partnership with Polonia Northern England, Warsaw Calling: Uprising 1944 also features Northern Heroines, highlighting the stories of women and their contributions to history.

This is the first time the exhibition has travelled outside London, bringing these important stories to the North of England and the Fusilier Museum in Bury.

Looking for something fun to do with the family this October half term? Come along to The Fusilier Museum for a spooktacular day of discovery, creativity and family fun!

FREE Family Craft Activity – Friday 30 October

There are some ghostly goings-on at The Fusilier Museum! Join us between 10.30am and 12.30pm for our FREE drop-in Halloween craft activity. Create your very own shadow puppet theatre, then let your imagination run wild as you bring your own spooky stories to life!

Suitable for children aged 6+. Drawing materials will also be available for younger children.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening of Warsaw Calling: Uprising 1944 last night.

It was a very special evening as we came together to hear the stories of courage, resistance and sacrifice behind this powerful exhibition.

A special thank you to David Catterall, Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, for officially opening the exhibition and helping us mark this important occasion.

We’re incredibly proud to be the first venue outside London to host Warsaw Calling: Uprising 1944, bringing these remarkable stories to a new audience here in Bury.

Thank you also to our partners, PUMST and Polonia Northern England and everyone who helped bring this important exhibition to the North.

Warsaw Calling: Uprising 1944 is now open

This powerful, new exhibition explores one of the most significant acts of resistance during the Second World War.

On 1 August 1944, the Polish underground resistance rose against N**i occupation. For 63 days, the Polish Home Army fought vastly superior German forces in a determined attempt to liberate Warsaw.

Curated by the Polish Underground Movement Study Trust (PUMST), Warsaw Calling: Uprising 1944 brings together personal stories, rare archival material and striking images. It explores the experiences of those who lived through the uprising, including the many young people who risked their lives in the fight against occupation.

Alongside the main exhibition, Northern Heroines, presented by Polonia Northern England , tells the stories of three remarkable Polish women who came to Britain after the war and built new lives in Northern England.
