Volunteers have been hard at work getting ready for our next steaming event on the 30th & 31st of August.
Our volunteers have been busy changing bricks in the chimney flue, gaskets in the 12 inch diameter pipe work & tidying up the Victorian handrail originally fitted to burtons Victorian baths.
We hope you can join us for our steaming with over 30 running steam engines, blacksmiths forge, 4 giant beam engines, electrical generators and original boilers in steam.
We are open 10am - 5pm

The team of volunteers have been very busy since our last steaming In May. The May steaming marked the end of the hydraulic test on number 5 boiler. First restored to steam In 1997-2007 then again in 2016-2026. Steam Boilers have a 10 year long hydraulic test & 14 month steam test. Number 5 going out of service is why the volunteers had been working so hard to bring number 1 boiler back into service for Easter this year.

What is a hydraulic test ? - this involves filling the boiler entirely up with water then raising the pressure to one and a half times its working pressure & keeping it there for 30 mins.

The team are well on the way to stripping number 5 down ready for its hydraulic test. All the boiler fittings & stoker mechanism have been removed so that they can be overhauled & the shell sections can be seen. Much of the surrounding brick work will be removed so it can be repaired.

Our next steaming days are the 30th & 31st of August, we will be running boilers 4 & 1. We hope you can join us then !!

How is the cosmetic restoration progressing in AB engine house ?
As our regular followers will know Claymills pumping station has 4 Wolf compound beam engines housed in 2 identical engine houses AB & CD. CD engine house is now completely restored both cosmetically & mechanically. AB engine house is mechanically restored so both engine’s run, but now the cosmetic restoration has started.
Volunteers have been working hard restoring the plaster coving that sits between the plastered & Red brick sections of the engine house walls. The plaster work was extensively damaged by water ingress while the site sat derelict before restoration. We think you’ll agree it’s looking amazing!

See all four giant beam engines , steam powered workshop & forge , Lancashire boilers , Britain’s oldest working steam powered generator & 30 auxiliary steam engines in steam on the 30th & 31st of August!

The Pumping station will be closed for the next two Saturdays. Saturday 11th. Saturday 18th July.
This is due to engineering work on the railway crossing.
The trust is sorry for any convenience this may cause.

We will be in steam again on the 24th & 25th of May !!
We will be running 3 Lancashire boilers together in steam for one final time.
The volunteers have been hard at work making up the last few parts for number 1 boiler bending up new copper pipes for the gauge glasses & insulating the top part of the boiler shell.
We hope as many of you as possible can join us for this historic event
