Buckingham Old Gaol Museum Buckingham Old Gaol hosts Buckingham's museum as well as Buckingham Tourist Information Centre. Built in 1748, the building oozes character - inside and out.

The iconic Old Gaol in the heart of the historic market town of Buckingham. The purpose-built prison is now a museum, a tourist information centre, a gift shop, a second hand bookstore and a unique venue to hire.

It’s time to buy your tickets to hear Suzy Stathers talk about the real people of “Lark Rise to Candleford” The picture show Kezia Whitton, the real Dorcas Lane, who employed Flora at Fringford post office. She doesn’t fit the description from the book - “Miss Lane was not a tall woman and was slightly built, but an erect carriage, a commanding air, and the rustle as she walked of the rich silks she favoured gave her what was known as a presence.”

Our Flora Thompson Festival starts soon 5th - 19th September. As well as the current temporary display we will be adding information about Flora’s life. Entry is free on heritage day. Find out about Flora and her siblings, the real people of Lark Rise and touch some of the real BBC props from the TV post office! Copies of “Flora Thompsons Country”, by David Watts & Christine Bloxham, are available in our museum shop.
