NEW BOOK LAUNCH - Brora Heritage Centre tomorrow (Wednesday), from 11am until 3pm.

Well-known local fundraiser and Rotarian Alistair Risk MBE is launching his autobiography, A Life Less Ordinary, edited by Clyne Heritage Society Chairman Nick Lindsay, at Brora Heritage Centre tomorrow.

And the title couldn't be more appropriate!

From adventures in the Arctic and managing some of Britain's finest hotels to encounters with royalty and celebrities, Alistair has packed an extraordinary amount into more than eighty years – alongside a lifetime of work for tourism, Rotary, fundraising and his community.

Now the stories – funny, moving and occasionally almost unbelievable – are together in one book.

And in typical Alistair fashion, he's turned that into another fundraising opportunity too: all net proceeds from sales of A Life Less Ordinary will be donated to Clyne Heritage Society.

So come along to Brora Heritage Centre between 11am and 3pm tomorrow, meet Alistair, buy a copy and help us celebrate both the book and the man behind it.

And yes – he'll be signing copies! 📖✍️

The book is also available by post - contact info@broraheritage for details.

It is with regret that we say goodbye to our Community Engagement Officer, Aileen Ogilvie, who has accepted a position at Historylinks Museum, Dornoch, Sutherland.

Aileen has been with us since March 2024, and along with her colleague, Isla Campbell, made an enormous difference to our engagement with the wider community. The plaudits they have received are testament to their abilities and we are sorry to have lost them.

Isla's funding ended in March 2026.

We wish both Isla and Aileen success in the future, and they are welcome back any time.

The photo is from Aileen's most recent engagement with pupils from Brora Primary School in our new museum in June.

It's almost Fèis week in East Sutherland and we thought it would be fun to offer an evening Gaelic song workshop during Fèis Chataibh on Tuesday 7th July from 7pm - 8.30pm.

This is a chance to come along and learn a Gaelic song or two in a relaxed and informal setting with Singer Grace Morton.

The workshop is free and is taking place at Doll Hall.

No previous experience of Gaelic or singing necessary.

Let us know if you're planning to come along.
