Although summer is in full swing at Avoncroft Museum, plans are already well underway for one of our biggest events of the year. We are delighted to reveal the exciting live entertainment line-up for our 1940s On The Home Front Weekend, taking place on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October.

Visitors can enjoy a full programme of authentic wartime music, dancing and entertainment across the museum's 19-acre site, bringing the sights and sounds of the 1940s to life.

Keeping the atmosphere alive throughout the weekend will be the fabulous DJ Guy Rolls with Guy's Jumpin' Boogie spinning the very best music of the 1940s.

Live performances across the weekend will include:

• Pat Reyford – also known as Sugar Ray Ford
• Zakk Dienn – Rat Pack and swing vocalist performing timeless classics.
• Joe James Thomas as a superb Vintage George Formby Tribute
artist.
• Vintage Class Singers – Celebrating the golden era of vintage song harmony.

On Saturday, Sarah and her dancers from Waterside Swing Dance, will be hosting free dance classes, giving visitors the chance to learn some classic wartime dance moves before helping to launch our spectacular Saturday Evening Wartime Dance.

The evening dance promises to be a wonderful edition to the Saturday, featuring:
• Shannon - The Vocalist Shannon the Vocalist – More than just a singer, Shannon is a musical time traveller, transporting audiences back to the golden age of wartime entertainment.
• Pat Reyford, returning to the stage to keep everyone dancing and enjoying his energetic performance as Sugar Ray Ford.

The live entertainment joins an action-packed weekend featuring military and civilian re-enactors, historic vehicles from the 1930s and 1940s, immersive living history displays, Vintage Shopping Village, Vintage Fashion Show, Vintage Hair Stylists, Home Front demonstrations and family activities across the museum.

The view from the Windmill at Avoncroft Museum has changed over the years – not because of modern development, but because the windmill itself has moved!

Originally standing at Hill Farm, Danzey Green in Warwickshire since the 1830s, the windmill had been unused since 1874. After a storm damaged one of its sails, it gradually fell into disrepair.

In 1969, its rescue began, it was carefully dismantled in just six weeks before being brought to Avoncroft Museum. Over the next seven years, it was painstakingly restored and rebuilt, becoming what many visitors see as the jewel in Avoncroft's crown.

Today, she stands proudly in Windmill Field, overlooking the beautiful Worcestershire countryside and providing some truly breath-taking views.

Following the completion of our latest restoration project last year, the windmill is sailing once again (weather permitting) on the last Sunday of each month throughout the summer.

You can also enjoy fascinating guided tours, led by our knowledgeable volunteer millers, every Wednesday and Saturday, with tours included in normal museum admission.

If you've never climbed to the top of the steps or even higher ! – here are a few views to inspire you.

When we say Avoncroft Museum is set in the beautiful rural Worcestershire countryside, this is exactly what we mean! 🌾🌳💨

We are open Wednesdays to Sunday's and Bank Holiday Monday until 31 August. With our kids Go Free offer (2 free child tickets with each full price adult ticket.)

This week we invited a little friend of the Museum to put our Fairground Fun at Avoncroft Museum summer activities to the test. With her Auntie and Uncle in tow, she set off on a fun-filled adventure!

Her first stop was Visitor Welcome, where she picked up one of our Fairground Activity Booklets (£2) and a (Craft Token £3) Armed with her booklet, she searched for the Hook-a-Ducks hidden around our 19-acre museum site before burning off some energy in the play parks.

Next it was all aboard for a ride on our wonderful miniature train with Auntie, followed by a visit to our award-winning Showman's Wagon to explore its interactive displays.

By now it was time for lunch, so she chose one of our children's picnic boxes from the Tearooms and enjoyed eating outside while Auntie and Uncle tucked into some of our delicious summer takeaway food.

Our little visitor also tested just how dog-friendly Avoncroft is by bringing along Rocky and Lilo, who had a wonderful day too!

The fun continued in the Vintage Fairground where she had a go at all the traditional stalls. Uncle Bobbie shared his top tips for hitting the targets in Tin Can Alley, she hooked ducks, won prizes and rang the bell on the High Striker. She also loved swinging in the junior swing boats while enjoying the wonderful music from the vintage fairground organ, Annie.

Feeling creative, they headed to the children's craft tent, where our fantastic Avoncroft volunteers helped her make a colourful fairground horse and a balloon on a stick.

On the way to the Windmill Field, they stopped to watch volunteer Marion demonstrating the traditional heritage craft of corn dolly making in the Threshing Barn.

There was still plenty of energy left for old-fashioned games! Uncle Bobbie was beaten in the sack race, the space hopper got a good workout, and the skipping rope was certainly put through its paces.

Of course, no visit would be complete without exploring all of our fascinating historic buildings and beautiful grounds.

So... did our little visitor have a wonderful day?

YES, she certainly did! 🥰 And we're pretty sure Auntie and Uncle had just as much fun!

Just check out these wonderful photos! 📸
