In nearly all cases a phobia is a behaviour we have taught ourselves. It normally starts out as a small seed of doubt, something we don’t like or are mildly scared of, but our ever watchful unconscious mind picks-up on this and starts to try and protect us from encountering this event.
To achieve this, the mind starts to make us more scared of this thing or situation, and of course the more scared we are the more the unconscious mind recognises this and seeks to help protect us even further, and this makes the fear grow stronger until before you know it you have developed a full grown phobia.
But the good news is that just as easily as you have taught yourself this behaviour, you can unteach yourself and learn a new behaviour. Find out more:
