๐Ÿ› ๏ธ D-I-Y SAVES MONEYโ€ฆ AND YOU GOT GREEN SHIELD STAMPS TOO! ๐ŸŸข

We love finding little glimpses of everyday life in our old photographs and collections โ€“ and this tiny newspaper advert is a cracker!

๐Ÿ“ Brian Burchill, 57 Broad Street, Staple Hill proudly announced itself as Staple Hill's largest stockist of D-I-Y materials and tools.

And what could be better?

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Building materials
๐Ÿ”จ DIY materials and tools
๐ŸชŸ Glass cut to any size or shape while you waited
๐Ÿšš Daily delivery
๐Ÿ“… Open six full days
โ›ช Even Sunday morning!

ANDโ€ฆ Green Shield Stamps! ๐ŸŸข๐ŸŸข๐ŸŸข

For anyone who remembers them, you bought your shopping, collected your stamps, licked them and stuck them carefully into your book. Once you'd collected enough, you could exchange them for all sorts of goodies.

But we'd love to know more about Brian Burchill's shop.

Did you or your parents buy DIY supplies from here?
๐Ÿ”จ Do you remember the shop on Broad Street?
๐ŸŸข Were you a collector of Green Shield Stamps?
๐Ÿ“– And what did you save your stamps for?

Perhaps someone even remembers having glass cut โ€œwhile you waitโ€!

It's a tiny advert, but it gives us a wonderful snapshot of everyday Staple Hill โ€“ the shops, services and little things that were once part of ordinary life.

What do you remember? ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐ŸšŒ BANK HOLIDAY ADVENTURES โ€“ THEN AND NOW! ๐ŸŽฉ

Just look at the faces in this photograph! ๐Ÿ˜„

A row of open-topped charabancs, packed with smartly dressed passengers, hats firmly on heads, and everyone looking thoroughly excited about the day ahead.

The distinctive โ€œBristolโ€ logo is clearly visible on the front of the vehicles, but we don't know exactly when this photograph was taken โ€“ or where these happy travellers were heading.

Was this a Bank Holiday outing?
๐ŸŒŠ Were they off to the seaside?
๐Ÿ–๏ธ Weston-super-Mare, perhaps?
๐Ÿฆ A day at the coast, a country excursion or somewhere else entirely?

And just look at the chauffeurs โ€“ smartly dressed and ready to set off!

It's easy to forget that a day trip was once a real event. You dressed up, gathered your family or friends, climbed aboard the charabanc and headed off for a day of adventure.

Perryโ€™s shoe and boot shop was based in Staple Hill, Bristol. The prominent family-run shoe shop on the high street was situated near the bank and directly opposite the Portcullis pub. Up through the late 20th century, it was well-known by generations of locals as a go-to spot for purchasing everyday footwear and sports boots.

So what about you?

How did you spend your Bank Holiday? And do you have memories of family day trips, coach outings or seaside adventures?

Where do you think these people were going? ๐Ÿ‘‡

We'd love to hear your theories โ€“ and perhaps someone will recognise the vehicles or the people in this wonderful photograph from our collection.

โค๏ธ THANK YOU! โค๏ธ

What a Bank Holiday weekend it has been at Kingswood Heritage Museum!

A huge thank you to everyone who came through our doors โ€” whether you came to see the amazing Quasars, explored William Championโ€™s grottoes and gardens, brought the family along, enjoyed a cuppa and a slice of cake, bought something, made a donation, chatted to our volunteers or simply came to have a look around.

Every visit makes a difference.

We are a volunteer-run museum, and every penny you spend with us goes straight back into supporting the museum, our collections, the historic buildings and the gardens.

So whether you spent ยฃ5, bought a book, had a piece of cake or popped a donation in the box โ€” thank you. It all helps us keep this special place going. โค๏ธ

And a huge thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who gave up their Bank Holiday weekend to welcome visitors and make everything happen. We couldn't do it without you!

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Back to our usual museum opening this week:
Tuesday afternoon, 2โ€“5pm
Come and see what's inside โ€” there's always something new to discover.

๐Ÿ๏ธโค๏ธ WHAT A DAY! A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CAME ALONG! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ๏ธ

What a fantastic day we've had at Kingswood Heritage Museum with the Quasars!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who visited, chatted, asked questions, shared stories, admired the bikes, did the Quasar Trail and generally helped make the museum such a lively place today.

I've taken lots of photographs throughout the day โ€” can you spot yourself, your family or your friends? ๐Ÿ‘€

If you see yourself, tag yourself or tag your friends! We'd love to know who was here.

And one family gave us our favourite description of the dayโ€ฆ

โ€œPerfect for anyone from 4โ€“84!โ€ ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ

They explained that their family ranged in age from 4 to 84 โ€” although their youngest daughter wasn't having any of that and suggested it should really be โ€œ4 to 104!โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚

Then they introduced me to Grandad, who is 84, and his grandson, who is 4. โค๏ธ

And really, that's what days like today are all about โ€” something for everyone, whatever your age.

๐Ÿ๏ธ We may have waved goodbye to the Quasars for now, but our Quasar exhibition remains in the museum, so you can still discover the fascinating story of these extraordinary motorcycles.

๐ŸŒฟ And tomorrow, the grottoes and gardens are open too, so there's plenty more to explore.

So if you missed the grottoes today, don't worry โ€” come and check us out tomorrow!

And once again, thank you to every single person who came through our doors today. You've made it a very special day at KHM. โค๏ธ

The last Quasar has just left Kingswood Heritage Museum after a fantastic weekend!

A huge thank you to Paul, John, Louis and all the Quasar owners and enthusiasts who brought these amazing machines along, shared their stories and helped make the weekend such a success. โค๏ธ

And here goes Paul โ€” last one out! ๐Ÿ๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ

If you spot him out and about on the Quasarโ€ฆ

GIVE HIM A WAVE! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ˜‚

๐ŸŽฌ๐Ÿ๏ธ THE QUASAR ALMOST HAD A JAMES BOND ROLE! ๐Ÿ๏ธ๐ŸŽฌ

Imagine 007 tearing through a dramatic chase sceneโ€ฆ on one of these!

During the late 1970s or early 1980s, the futuristic Quasar attracted interest from people working on the James Bond films. The unusual feet-forward motorcycle was considered and inspected for possible use in a 007 film.

Sadly, it never made it onto the screen.

Imagine what could have been! ๐Ÿคฏ

But today, you don't need to imagine itโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ๏ธ THE QUASARS ARE BACK AT KINGSWOOD HERITAGE MUSEUM!

Come and see these extraordinary machines up close, chat to the drivers and meet some of the people who are passionate about keeping the Quasar story alive.

And while you're here, explore our Quasar exhibition and discover how this remarkable British motorcycle came to be.

๐Ÿ”Ž Kids can also take on our Quasar Trail โ€“ find the hidden words around the museum, solve the puzzle and claim a sticker!

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Museum open TODAY: 11amโ€“5pm
