We've just had Bike Week, the UK's annual celebration of cycling, and we'd love to encourage more people to visit us by bike!

We're just a short ride from the Bristol & Bath Railway Path, close to the popular Warmley Waiting Room café, making us a perfect destination for a heritage stop on your cycling adventure.

Choose from a selection of pottery items, including:

Then get creative and design your own unique masterpiece!

Once you've finished painting, your pottery will be taken away for professional glazing and firing before being returned to you approximately 1–2 weeks later, ready to enjoy at home or give as a gift.

🚒🔥 Warmley Auxiliary Fire Service 🔥🚒

Do you recognise anyone in this photograph?

This fascinating picture shows members of the Warmley Auxiliary Fire Service outside their headquarters in Stanley Road, Warmley. Although the photograph is undated, it provides a glimpse into an organisation that played a vital role both during the Second World War and after the Auxiliary Fire Service was reformed in 1948 alongside the Civil Defence Corps.

From their base in Warmley, crews could be called out at a moment's notice on a "shout", responding not only to local incidents but also to major emergencies further afield, including during the Bristol Blitz.

⚽🥅 With football fever in the air, here's a local team from 50 years ago! 🥅⚽

This fantastic photograph shows the Tynings Primary School Mums' Football Team in 1975 — complete with football kits, determined poses and what looks like plenty of team spirit!

Can you spot yourself, a family member, neighbour or friend in the picture?

📸 Were you there?
⚽ Did you play in the match?
🏆 Was this part of a school fete or fundraising event?
👩 Who remembers the names of any of the players?
🥅 And most importantly... did the team win?

We love this photograph because it captures a moment in local history that might otherwise have been forgotten. It's also a reminder that women's football has deep roots in our communities long before it became the global sport it is today.

This photo is part of our current Schools Exhibition, featuring hundreds of photographs from local schools across the area. Many visitors have already discovered old classmates, teachers, brothers, sisters and even themselves!

🏡✨ Object of the Month – Chosen by Linda ✨🏡

This month, volunteer Linda has done something a little different and chosen not an object, but a whole room – our wonderful 1950s Living Room Display.

"Every time I walk past it, I have to stop and look," says Linda. "It reminds me so much of my childhood."

The room is full of memories. The beige tiled fireplace takes Linda straight back to the days of a real coal fire. She remembers the coal scuttle beside the hearth, poking the fire with the poker, and making toast by holding bread over the flames on a toasting fork.

"I can still remember the coal man delivering sacks of coal, which were stored in the shed at the back. My mother would have to go out and fetch some whenever she wanted to light the fire."

Looking around the room, Linda spots familiar treasures everywhere. The three ducks flying in formation on the wall are just like the set her gran had. The old telephone, the radio, and even the mirror where you would check your hat before leaving the house all bring back happy memories.

One exhibit in particular makes her smile – the large old-fashioned pram.

"My brother had a pram just like that, and I used to ride on the back! In those days you'd see rows of prams parked outside the shops with the babies inside while their mothers went shopping. You certainly wouldn't see that now!"

Even the lino flooring reminds Linda of home.

"We had lino like that with a rug on top, probably one my mother had made herself."

Our 1950s room is more than just a display of objects – it's a time capsule that brings memories flooding back for many visitors. We've lost count of the number of times we've heard someone say, "We had one of those!"

🌿🚶‍♂️ Guided Walk of the Historic Gardens & Grottoes 🚶‍♀️🌿

Join us on Sunday 14th June at 2.15pm for a fascinating guided walk around the historic gardens and grottoes at Kingswood Heritage Museum.

Discover the remarkable landscape created by 18th-century industrialist William Champion, including the famous grottoes, historic garden features and the stories behind this unique site.

Your guide will be Dino Zelinika, who brings a fascinating mix of expertise and experience. Dino has been an orchid specialist for over 22 years and was awarded a medal at the 2025 Chelsea Flower Show. He holds both BA and MA degrees in History, with a particular interest in environmental history, and has been involved in wild orchid conservation projects both in the UK and Myanmar.

Whether you're interested in local history, gardens, nature or simply enjoy exploring hidden corners of Bristol, this promises to be an enjoyable afternoon.

🌸🌼 Our little museum garden is looking beautiful! 🌼🌸

The flower bed at the front of Kingswood Heritage Museum is bursting into bloom at the moment, welcoming visitors with a wonderful splash of colour. Among the flowers is our special 30th Anniversary Rose Bush, which is looking particularly lovely. 🌹

Sadly, the wonderful volunteers who have lovingly cared for this area over the years have now had to move on, and we're looking for a few green-fingered people who might be able to help us keep it looking its best over the summer.

Could you spare:
🌱 A couple of hours a week?
🌱 A few hours a month?
🌱 The occasional morning or afternoon?

Tasks are simple and include:
💧 Watering
🌿 Weeding
✂️ Dead-heading
🌸 General tidying and care

Every little bit helps, and your efforts would make a real difference to the welcome we give our visitors.

Kingswood Heritage Museum is run entirely by volunteers, and we'd love to hear from anyone who enjoys gardening and would like to help keep this little corner of the museum looking bright and beautiful.
