Here at the SS Great Britain, our team of volunteers go above and beyond. This (1st - 7th June) we say a MASSIVE thank you to our dedicated team.

Bristol City Leap recently partnered with students from Boom Satsuma; a Bristol-based education provider for the creative industries, to produce six short films spotlighting organisations funded through the Bristol City Leap Community Energy Fund.

From heritage sites including ourselves, cultural venues, local farms, pools and scout huts, they demonstrated the breadth of the Fund and the range of organisations leading change.

With the Bristol City Leap Community Energy Fund support, the SS Great Britain Trust is collaborating with external experts to analyse data from its building management system, building a clearer understanding of heat and energy flows across the site. This analysis will support optimisation of the existing gas-fired heating system and ensure any future replacement is correctly sized and tailored.

The film captures this thoughtful approach: blending heritage stewardship with modern energy expertise to make informed, future-ready decisions.

This film was created by:
Nichole Sims - Project Manager
Jess Sherwood - Director
Lorenzo Thomas - Editor/Sound
Oskar Leighton - Sound
Sky Shaw - Camera Operator

Today on , we celebrate our upcoming new museum opening on July 19 with a spotlight on one of our key artefacts from the collection. 🐚

The Turban shell depicts Omar Pasha in its engravings, the Ottoman commander in chief. It is thought that the SS Great Britain transported his troops as she was one of the largest and fastest vessels available at the time.

Community researcher Soumia Seradj took a keen interest in the artefact and developed a connection to the stories behind it: 'I really love it, to feel the struggles or success or the happiness or the sorrow of people that lived through this time.' Through her work, she commissioned a replica that highlights the engravings that are difficult to see with the naked eye, allowing everyone to enjoy the hidden messages.

Come and find out more about this beautiful object alongside its replica this July when our new museum experience opens!

We're looking forward to welcoming you to SS Great Britain on Sunday 10 May.

We wanted to give you advance notice that the AJ Bell Great Bristol Run is taking place that day, with 23,000 runners passing through Bristol city centre and the harbourside area. Road closures will be in place around our site between 6:00am and 2:30pm, which means our car park will not be accessible during this time. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

We strongly recommend travelling by an alternative means (please note that bus services will also be disrupted):
By foot or bike – the harbourside is a lovely walk or cycle from the city centre
By train – Bristol Temple Meads is around a 20-minute walk from the ship

If travelling by car is your only option, we'd suggest using a car park outside the road closure zone and making your way to us on foot. Please do allow extra time, as roads across the city will be busier than usual throughout the morning.

If you have any questions about your visit, please contact [email protected].
We look forward to welcoming you soon!
