Need a place, but not a lease?

The Lab is becoming a flexible Kemptown base for people who work independently but occasionally need somewhere real.

Meet clients. Host a workshop. Create content. Test a pop-up. Exhibit in the window. Bring a small group together.

Book by the hour, half-day or day, or make the Lab your regular weekly base.

For practitioners, creators, facilitators, independent brands and small organisations.

Founding rates now available. DM LAB to arrange a visit.

Over the past three years, our Kemptown Lab has changed with the people using it.

We’ve met artists, therapists, facilitators, photographers and independent professionals who all need space, but rarely need another monthly membership or the cost of their own premises.

So The Lab is evolving into a flexible Kemptown base, available by the hour or for a regular weekly slot.

A place to meet a client, record a podcast, photograph your work, film a self-tape, host a small group or test an idea.

We like spaces that look good. We simply care more about whether they work: calm, professional, adaptable and fairly priced.

The Creative Lab by Wach’Art is the space you need, when you need it.

Bookings opening soon.

HIGHER GROUND, our latest exhibition at Mid Street Lab, Kemptown, after a well deserved long summer break.

Dr Jane Savage ( ) and Heather Curwen ( ) return for an exclusive collaboration at the Lab.

Their residency begins today. Over the coming days, you’ll see Higher Ground emerge from the ground up: an evolving body of painting, sculpture, collage and print exploring mythology, science, wilderness and survival in a changing world.

Inspired by the extraordinary migration of caribou, Jane and Heather ask how we might reconnect with the natural world, adapt through uncertainty and find our own higher ground.

This will be our final exhibition at Mid Street Lab before the space begins a new chapter in September as a shared studio for artists. We can’t imagine a more meaningful way to mark the transition.

Private View: Friday 21 August, 5–7pm
Residency: 21 August–4 September
📍 Mid Street Lab, 80 St George’s Road, Kemptown, Brighton BN2 1EF

Come and witness the work taking shape. We can’t wait to welcome you.

Now open at Mid Street Lab, TRAUMA by BNGM explores personal memory, pressure, violence and the emotional weight carried through systems, families and history.

The exhibition moves between charcoal drawings, sculpture, digital works and layered pastel pieces.

Some works feel deeply personal.
Others feel uncomfortably societal.

A toy becomes threatening.
Surveillance becomes normalised.
Hope itself becomes ambiguous.

There is darkness in the work, certainly, but also honesty, restraint and sensitivity.

Yesterday, a visitor nearly cried while walking through the exhibition.

They said:

“How can someone express so much grief and sadness with such simple mediums?”

It stayed with us because that is perhaps where the strength of the work sits.
Not in spectacle, but in recognition.

It’s probably not what you expect.
And that surprised us too.

Worth spending time with. Read the full article: https://broadwaybaby.com/shows/trauma-an-exhibition/835607

Last Saturday don’t miss it! TRAUMA explores personal memory, inherited violence, institutional pressure and societal conditioning through sculpture, pastel, charcoal, installation and digital works.

Across the exhibition, hope and suffocation remain intertwined.

Highlights include:

Hope — where survival and strangulation become visually inseparable

Childhood — toys transformed into unsettling faces

Overwatch — trauma through surveillance and loss of autonomy

Greed — inherited systems of ambition and exploitation

Bright Light — catastrophe disguised as spectacle

Boys Only — violence and masculinity taught through play

The exhibition asks difficult but necessary questions about how trauma is inherited, normalised and embedded within both personal and societal structures.
