Join us at The Keep for an introduction to the archive of Raymond Briggs.

The archive was deposited with East Sussex and Brighton and Hove Record Office in 2025 and thanks to funding from The National Archives ‘Archives Revealed’ grant, and we are now running a project to catalogue the collection and make it accessible to the public.

The session on Wednesday 17 June from 2-3:30pm will include a presentation from the Project Archivist and the chance to see some original material from the archive.

The session is free, but you will need to register in advance on the events page on our website https://thekeep.digitickets.co.uk/tickets as numbers are limited.

We look forward to welcoming you to The Keep and sharing this fascinating archive!

Did you know the oldest item we hold is from 1101, and anyone can order it to view in our Reading Room? From the archive of the Brown and Webster families of Battle Abbey, BAT 1 is a notification from Henry I, King of the English, that the church of St Martin in Battle can act as a court to hear legal disputes. The wax seal attached is the Great Seal of Henry I, and shows a king enthroned.
