Now open at Mid Street Lab, TRAUMA by BNGM explores personal memory, pressure, violence and the emotional weight carried through systems, families and history.

The exhibition moves between charcoal drawings, sculpture, digital works and layered pastel pieces.

Some works feel deeply personal.
Others feel uncomfortably societal.

A toy becomes threatening.
Surveillance becomes normalised.
Hope itself becomes ambiguous.

There is darkness in the work, certainly, but also honesty, restraint and sensitivity.

Yesterday, a visitor nearly cried while walking through the exhibition.

They said:

“How can someone express so much grief and sadness with such simple mediums?”

It stayed with us because that is perhaps where the strength of the work sits.
Not in spectacle, but in recognition.

It’s probably not what you expect.
And that surprised us too.

Worth spending time with. Read the full article: https://broadwaybaby.com/shows/trauma-an-exhibition/835607

Last Saturday don’t miss it! TRAUMA explores personal memory, inherited violence, institutional pressure and societal conditioning through sculpture, pastel, charcoal, installation and digital works.

Across the exhibition, hope and suffocation remain intertwined.

Highlights include:

Hope — where survival and strangulation become visually inseparable

Childhood — toys transformed into unsettling faces

Overwatch — trauma through surveillance and loss of autonomy

Greed — inherited systems of ambition and exploitation

Bright Light — catastrophe disguised as spectacle

Boys Only — violence and masculinity taught through play

The exhibition asks difficult but necessary questions about how trauma is inherited, normalised and embedded within both personal and societal structures.

Between two Flow Mode seasons, something unexpected is taking shape.

For one week only, the space shifts into a raw and emotionally charged encounter with works from resident conceptual and award winning artists Broken Glass Design, exploring trauma, migration, grief, survival, memory and the things society prefers not to see.

Not loud.
Not decorative.
But deeply human.

Some works feel political.
Some feel intimate.
Some feel like a confession left on the wall.

🎟️Booking link to attend the PV in bio this Thursday 6 at 12pm.

Come for the atmosphere, the conversations, the people, the music, the feeling of stepping into something alive before it disappears again.

This is what Brighton art culture looks like when artists are still present, still making, still taking risks.

🖤 One week only.

“Don’t be careful. You could hurt yourself” is a famous quote by artist Louise Bourgeois (1911–2010). Today 15 April 2026 is World Art Day.

If you’ve ever walked into a space and felt like
you weren’t really meant to be there…
this is for you.

In Brighton, art doesn’t have to start with a sale.
It starts with showing up, as you are.

No codes. No gatekeeping. No pretending.

Just artists building in real time.
And people stepping in, asking, staying, shaping what happens next.

Because art isn’t just something you look at.
It’s something you’re already part of.

This season, don’t just scroll past it.
Step into it.

Support the spaces, the people, the energy
that keep it alive all year, not just when it’s trending.

At Wach’Art Mid Street Lab x The Vault, we don’t just exhibit. We build something you can actually belong to.

That’s Altruistic Art.
Not a concept: a shared reality.

Brighton gets it when it chooses participation over spectatorship.

So if you’ve been waiting for a sign - this is it.

Come through. Stay a bit. Be part of it.

Something is taking shape in Brighton.
Artists from our community are now showing across the city — from Fabrica to Hastings Contemporary — while Ole Skauge’s work has just been installed on the seafront at the Upside Down House.
Grateful for the city’s support, and to Birgit Miller for recognising what is emerging.
Next moments:
• 27 Mar — Body of Play
• 9 Apr — Flow Mode setup
• 18 Apr — PV at The Vault
• 23 Apr — Gathering

The street becomes the stage.

For the next three weeks, Helena Bryant Taylor inhabits the window at Mid Street Lab with Body of Play: a residency exploring playful performance, embodied making and relational encounters.

Working with objects, gestures and the body itself, Helena transforms the studio window into a porous space between artist and city.

Drop by, witness the process, and encounter art as it unfolds.

Participation Is the New Patronage. Visible. Sustainable. Local.

February marks a shift. We’re consolidating governance, forming a Patron Circle, and preparing our inaugural Altruistic Art Gala (2027).

Brighton doesn’t lack talent, it lacks sustained infrastructure. We’re building it.

Join us: collect with purpose, support local artists, and help shape a cultural ecosystem that lasts.- https://mailchi.mp/midstreetlab/visible-sustainable-local
