Built by Merton Russell-Cotes as a gift for his wife, Annie, the house celebrates the couple's passion for art, travel, world cultures and natural history. They richly furnished the house and galleries, filling them with a remarkable collection of British art and sculpture and beautiful objects from their travels across the world. ✨ Competition Announcement ✨

Our Reading the Room interiors competition has concluded, and we’ve had some wonderful entries. Because we had such an incredible range of submissions, we have decided to award two prizes: one for an artwork and one for a photograph of an interior.

🎨 On this day in 1855, artist Evelyn De Morgan was born.

One of the leading female artists associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement, De Morgan created powerful paintings rich in symbolism, mythology and imagination. We're proud to have her striking work Aurora Triumphans (1886) in the Russell-Cotes collection, where the goddess of Dawn triumphs over the darkness of Night.

Next time you visit, take a moment to look closely at the trumpeting angels, glowing colours and the hopeful message woven into this remarkable painting ✨
