🏺 6-Week Beginners Pottery Course – Friday Mornings 🏺

Have you always wanted to try pottery?

Our 6-Week Beginners Pottery Course is the perfect introduction to working with clay, whether you're completely new to ceramics or looking to refresh your skills and build confidence.

Working in a small group of just six participants, you'll enjoy plenty of individual guidance as you explore both handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques in our friendly and relaxed studio.

Over six weekly sessions you'll learn:

✨ Slab and pinch pot techniques
✨ Introduction to wheel throwing
✨ Centring, opening and pulling forms
✨ Trimming and refining your work
✨ Decorating with slips and underglazes
✨ Glazing and preparing pieces for firing

By the end of the course, most students complete 3–5 unique ceramic pieces to take home and enjoy.

All clay, tools, studio glazes and firings are included, so all you need to bring is your enthusiasm (and clothes you don't mind getting a little messy!).

If you've been looking for a creative hobby, a chance to unwind, or simply an opportunity to learn something new, this course is the perfect place to start.

NEW WORKSHOP – DRAWING THROUGH OBSERVATION

Join us for a one-day drawing workshop with artist and tutor Julia Fonnereau.

Designed for all skill levels, this inspiring workshop will help you slow down, look more closely, and develop confidence in your drawing through a series of guided observation and mark-making exercises.

Whether you're a complete beginner or a more experienced artist looking to loosen up and explore new ways of seeing, you'll discover practical techniques to help improve your drawing and creative confidence.

Throughout the day you'll explore:

✏️ Observational drawing techniques
✏️ Shape, proportion and negative space
✏️ Mindful and intuitive drawing exercises
✏️ Building confidence through process rather than perfection
✏️ Working with a variety of drawing materials and approaches

The focus isn't on creating a finished masterpiece, but on developing curiosity, observation and a more enjoyable, mindful approach to drawing.

About the Tutor

Julia Fonnereau is a qualified art teacher and freelance artist specialising in botanical and nature-inspired work. Her workshops are known for being welcoming, imaginative and encouraging, helping participants develop skills while enjoying the creative process.

Fancy trying the pottery wheel?

Places available on our Pottery Wheel Taster Session on Saturday 30 May at Townhouse Ceramics.

A relaxed 2-hour session for complete beginners where you’ll learn the basics of throwing on the wheel with plenty of guidance along the way. You’ll make a selection of pots and choose your favourite piece to be glazed and fired to collect later.

Lou is now displaying and selling a beautiful collection of her stunning artworks here at Townhouse. Inspired by nature, her work is full of gentle colour, texture and atmosphere — pieces designed to bring a sense of calm and beauty into your space.

As Lou describes it:

“Through intuitive layers of colour and texture, I create semi-abstract floral landscapes inspired by the feeling of being surrounded by nature – that gentle exhale when the world slows down for a moment.”

Welcome to the “not so good bucket” — home to the wobbly, wonky, cracked and slightly questionable creations that didn’t quite go to plan.

Because pottery isn’t about perfection.
It’s about learning, experimenting, making memories and having fun with clay.

Sometimes the best part of being creative is simply having a go.

And honestly… we’re quite fond of the wonky ones 🤎
