Townhouse Ceramics Studio & Gallery is a shared ceramic workspace and creative hub, based in a Georgian townhouse in the heart of Bishops Stortford.

We offer a professionally equipped setting for developing skills, exploring ideas, and building community.

Our classes take place in a supportive, relaxed and non judgmental environment, where there’s no pressure to make perfect pots. You’ll learn the essential techniques of handbuilding and wheel throwing while having the space to experiment, explore and simply enjoy being creative.

No previous experience needed, just come as you are and get your hands in clay.

Six weeks of learning, creating and enjoying the experience of clay 🤍

In this 2 hour small group session, you’ll be guided through the basics of wheel throwing, from preparing clay and learning to centre, to opening up the clay and shaping simple forms. The focus is on getting a feel for the wheel, understanding the process, and enjoying the experience in a friendly, supportive studio environment.

You’ll have the chance to make a few attempts on the wheel during the session, and at the end you’ll choose your favourite two pieces to be glazed and fired.

Spaces available: Sasha Wardell Slipcasting Masterclass

3–4 October

Join renowned ceramic artist Sasha Wardell for a two-day masterclass exploring slipcasting, handling and decorating porcelain forms.

Working with two small bowl moulds, Sasha will share her distinctive techniques for casting, assembling and decorating, with plenty of individual guidance in a small group.

Townhouse Ceramics is in Bishop’s Stortford, with easy rail access from London. We can also recommend local accommodation if you’d like to make a weekend of it.

Suitable for those with some slipcasting experience.

Sara Moorhouse: Throwing & Surface Decoration
26–27 September • £295

Join ceramic artist Sara Moorhouse for a two-day masterclass exploring throwing, turning and underglaze decoration.

Sara will share her distinctive approach to form, proportion, hand-painted colour and banding on the wheel. The small group means plenty of individual guidance throughout the weekend.

For potters with existing throwing experience.

You’ll be guided step by step from the very beginning to your finished piece.

Learn at your own pace in a relaxed, friendly environment, with guidance always available whenever you need it.

You’ll have the chance to explore different pottery techniques, get creative and make your own unique pieces while learning the foundations along the way.
