What's On this week at The Ropewalk! 👀

Tuesday – Saturday 10am - 5pm and Sunday 10am - 4pm.

🦉Box Gallery - Heather Elvidge. Heather is a ceramic artist working from her garden studio in the East Yorkshire Wolds, where the surrounding hedgerows and wildlife quietly find their way into everything she makes. Hares, foxes and birds often take centre stage within patterned landscapes influenced by folk art, printmaking and folklore.

💍 October Jeweller of the Month - Silver Sapling. Lucy and Ben create handcrafted jewellery inspired by the natural environment and have created a collection of silver and ceramic pieces with hand painted characters and folk inspired motifs.

🍯 The Artspace – Swan Song – an exhibition celebrating Pru Green’s 60-year ceramics career that also features work by her son, Simon Sharp amongst others.

🖼 Gallery One – Jane Walker explores line, space and light through abstract paintings and stitched canvases.

We’ve just received a gorgeous new delivery of scarves by Trish Needham, and they’re already flying off the shelves! It’s not hard to see why…

A graduate of the Royal College of Art in London, Trish is passionate about colour and pattern, drawing inspiration from her love of gardening and architecture. The result is bold, striking and distinctive screen prints, all designed and printed by Trish in her South London studio.

From pea pods, poppies, daisies and echinacea to playful stripes, spots and dots, her latest collection brings a wonderful splash of colour to the colder months. Printed on luxurious iridescent velvet-textured silks and beautiful Irish linens, these scarves are every bit as lovely to wear as they are to look at.

Whether you’re getting a head start on your Christmas shopping or looking for something special to brighten up your winter wardrobe, a Trish Needham scarf could be just the thing!

The wait is almost over, there is just one week to go before the first Barnstormers Comedy Club of the 2026/27 season!

Joining us next Friday, October 30 is Stephanie Lang, Sean Gorman and Noel James, not forgetting the compere, Kevin.

As this is a Friday show, you’ll also be able to tuck in to a freshly made pizza in the Ropery Hall bar before the comedians hit the stage.

We’ve just received a new selection of glasses cases by Irene Campsil, available in a range of beautiful colours and designs.

Irene is passionate about design and traditional textiles, combining colour and practical ideas to create useful pieces with a distinctive look.

We have had a very successful (and busy!) month of workshops so far, covering a range of creative practices such as Vintage China Mosaics, Bookbinding, Creative Writing and Stitching.

November is already shaping up to be another busy month of creativity with one workshop already fully booked and another not far behind. Next month is when the workshops start to get a little bit festive with a Wire Wreath and Robin workshop, Glass Angels, Trees and Danglies, Creative Writing and more.

We are delighted to once again support the Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox Appeal, organised by the Trinity Methodist Church, by acting as a collection point for donations – this appeal helps to provide Christmas gifts for disadvantaged children across the globe.

If you wish to support this, you can collect an empty shoebox from The Ropewalk, the Baysgarth Stables Cafe or at Trinity Methodist Church, and fill it with gifts and special items for a child this Christmas.

Donations can be left here between 10am and 4pm, Tuesday, November 10 to Sunday, 15. Please note, no toothpaste, liquids or sweets to be included in the boxes this year.

We’re delighted to share the results of the 2026 Annual Museum Survey, which highlight the significant contribution The Ropewalk continues to make to the local economy through tourism, employment, local suppliers and volunteering.

Almost 100,000 visitors came through our doors in 2025/26, generating an impressive £2,208,147 in economic impact for the local economy.

Within this figure, employment, the use of local goods and services, and the invaluable contribution of our volunteers fed into our economic impact by £487,000+.

These figures demonstrate just how important cultural venues like The Ropewalk are to our local community. Every visit helps support local businesses, sustain jobs and contribute to the wider economy.

Most importantly, we couldn’t do it without you!

Have you spotted new work by Lee Sass in the Hallmark Room yet?

Lee’s work takes many forms - from biodegradable coffins and shrouds to disability portraits that challenge our ideas of beauty and difference. Although diverse, there is a common thread running through it all: using art to shine a light on social issues and encourage us to see things differently.

Her dog portraits are no exception.

Beautiful, engaging and instantly accessible, this collection of portraits, titled Ruff Sketches, celebrate the personalities of rescue dogs and the incredible individuality behind every face. They remind us that a rescue dog isn’t defined by its past, its breed or its circumstances - but by the character and companionship it can bring.

Behind every portrait is a gentle message: there are countless wonderful dogs already waiting for loving homes.

If you enjoy Lee’s work, please consider voting for her artwork that is currently being exhibited in the Harley. It is titled Death Shouldn’t Cost the Earth and is environmentally designed and made using endangered heritage crafts. The link to vote is in the comments below.
