The four men below, although in different units, all fought in the Battle Of Albert which commenced on 01/07/1916 at Beaumont Hamel - less than 2 miles northwest of Thiepval - in France. The British Fourth and French Sixth Armies attacked on a front between Gommecourt to the north of Albert and Foucoucourt to the south. The battle was an Allied Pyrrhic victory - one in which the cost of the victory in lives was considered too heavy compared to the gain.
Both men below served in the 1st Bn., King's Own Scottish Borderers (Scott seconded from 2 KOSB).
