Trustee Vacancies

We are looking to strengthen our Trustee team by recruiting two new members with specific responsibilities for Public Relations and Social Media

Public Relations We are looking for a new trustee, with knowledge and experience in PR and communications. The successful candidate will be someone who can develop a list of local contacts, and work with them throughout the calendar year. The Trustee will review all promotional material for the Museum and our work, as well as utilising local knowledge to identify other outlets/locations for this material.

Social Media We are looking for a new trustee with knowledge and skills in social media and digital communications. The role will provide the opportunity to develop a social media strategy, and look to build awareness of our museum and the work we do in the community through regular updates and campaigns.

A new addition to our longcase clock collection.

Made by George Williams who moved to Bristol around 1785 and was best known as a watchmaker. It is unusual in that it has pictures of Georgian life engraved on the dial instead of the traditional cast spandrels.

Betty the Doll

This season Betty is wearing a printed blue cotton dress, with a white, lace trimmed pinafore. Perfect summer fashion for a young girl in the Edwardian era, she just needs a big straw hat!

Unfortunately, despite the relaxation in lockdown rules on the 17th May, we are still unable to open our Museum. The limitations of our 15th century building prevent us from meeting social distancing requirements. We hope to open later in the year if regulations allow.

Maybe a book for Christmas?

King John's Hunting Lodge has had to stay closed this year, due to covid-19. But it will open again as soon as possible, and we look forward to welcoming you to Axbridge & District Museum. Meantime, why not treat your family and friends to a festive stocking-filler that's a reminder of a fun past-visit or a promise of a post-covid treat (or both!): an illustrated book of the 15th century, Grade 11-listed Lodge that's full of fascinating insights into Axbridge's history during its wool-trading hey-day.

This National Trust-owned, architectural gem in lovely, medieval Axbridge Square houses too an alluring display of exhibits relating to local geology and history, from the Stone Age to the Second World War.

While Axbridge & District Museum is closed, King John's Hunting Lodge, published by The National Trust, 2018 (£3.50), is available at Ripley Antiques & Vintage, Axbridge Square. Tel: 07476 613 557 & 01934 732641. Open Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm (please call to check if open, in case of covid restrictions).
