This morning we received the very sad news of the passing of our cherished friend and colleague, Joe Canning. Joe was a quiet man who dedicated his life to the GAA and the library service. Upon his retirement from the Irish and Local Studies Library in Armagh he selflessly applied his talents to the work of the Cardinal Ó Fiaich Library & Archive for over twenty years. He served not only as a volunteer librarian but also as treasurer. His contribution was beyond measure. His last act in this respect was a donation, received just yesterday, of a valuable hand written history of his own parish of Loughgilly composed in 1872 by John O'Callaghan. Joe's legacy will remain within these walls for longer than he will ever have known. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.
