⭐️ Quick Update! ⭐️

Thank you so much to every client who has contacted me over the last few weeks- you’ve definitely kept me busy with the admin…

So - September is now fully booked apart from the morning of the 25th. In October I have 6 dates left, but more availability in November and December. January, February and March of 2027 also have very limited dates remaining, so if you want to book, get in touch sooner rather than later!

In two weeks time, on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September, it’s the fantastic European Heritage Open Days weekend!
Come and join Mrs McKinley at the Bridewell Gaol in Magherafelt, for a guided tour of the town’s prison…
Learn about life inside its walls, enter one of its cells, and visit the graveyard behind the gaol itself. But remember- it’s very easy to enter the Bridewell, but not quite as simple to leave…

Saturday’s tours run at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. Sunday’s tours run every hour between 12pm-4pm.

Day two of staff training completed at Bagenal’s Castle NMD Museums!

That’s the staff all set for a new season of museum and schools living history. They’ll be hitting the ground running in September…

And here we go with the final schools programme, ‘Children of WWII’!

Step back to the 1940s with your pupils and meet with Eva Jones, Billeting Officer! Eva will visit your school to help prepare your pupils for their upcoming evacuation…

During the session children will receive their own Identity Cards and travel tags, and will learn about the train journey that awaits them. Eva will explain how the selection of children will work, about their new schools, and about how to manage with their rationing. Pupils will also find out what to pack, and will finish with a cheery song to send them on their way…

This programme lasts for 1.5 hours and includes a PDF workbook to help with connected learning, and to continue the exploration of children during WWII.

That’s the summer holidays over - first day back at work!

Luckily, I was working in one of my favourite places, the beautiful Bagenal’s Castle NMD Museums delivering living history training to the fantastic staff.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked with Bagenal’s Castle since they first opened nearly 20 years ago, and they were my first ever booking when I set up Time Steps 16 years ago!

And well…you can’t really ask for a better room than this to work in…

Today’s programmes are ‘Step Onboard the Titanic’, which can be delivered as a Living History session or as an education workshop. Some schools like to do both and make a day of it!

If you choose ‘Step Onboard the Titanic’ - Living History, then your pupils will meet with Miss Victoria Smith, a lady’s maid travelling with her first class mistress. Victoria will tell your children about her life, her work and future dreams, and about the differences in everyday life onboard the RMS Titanic. The session finishes with a look through her steamer trunk at everything needed for a day in 1912…

The Education Workshop begins with a look a life in 1912, and what was happening in Ireland, Britain and the rest of the world while Titanic was being built. Pupils will learn about Home Rule, Suffragettes, employment, homes and much more. They will explore different passengers and finish with a group boat building challenge.

Today’s programme is ‘Famine and the Workhouse’ - aimed at KS2 pupils, and created to allow them to experience life in Ireland during the Great Hunger.

The session starts with your children being admitted to their local workhouse by Mrs McKinley, the Matron. They must listen carefully as she instructs them in their daily routine, assigns them their work, and explains to them why they have entered the House of Industry…For the duration of the Living History segment, your pupils will be treated as inmates to allow them to truly feel the effects of the famine and the workhouse.

The second part of the programme consists of a Q&A with ‘Mrs McKinley’, allowing for discussion around what they have just experienced; the workhouse; and the famine. It is also an opportunity for pupils to ask their own questions for connected learning.
