To cheer us all up we thought we'd share a couple of photos with you.

The first photo was taken by our late volunteer Norrie Sneddon in 1988 of his two children Andrew and Ruth sitting at the front of the fire engine. Note Andrew paying great interest in the controls!

Little did he know that just over 20 years later he would become a volunteer at the railway and end up driving and fixing the bus and fire engine for his own children and passengers to enjoy!

In 2018 the siblings then decided 30 years on from the original picture that it would be wonderful to recreate the shot so they did!

Don't you think this is a wonderful story? Like and share if you agree! πŸ˜πŸš’

Stay safe everyone! πŸ˜€β€

ORIGINAL LOCOMOTIVE

We are very excited to be able to share with you a picture the original KMR loco seen here running at it's new home in Aarhus, Denmark.

'Tibby' (aka 'Bonnie Dundee') was initially acquired by Matthew Kerr Snr in 1934 to run at his railway at Balfield Farm, Dundee the then home of Kerr's Dairy.

When he built the railway here in 1935, he moved 'Tibby' along with the rest of hiscollection to its new home.

During the second world war the loco disappeared and it was some 64 years until she re-emerged!

In 2003 a railway enthusiast found the loco on a plinth in a railway themed restaurant in Demmark and we still to this day have no idea how it got there or where it had been for all these years! He then set about restoring 'Tibby' and came across to Scotland to let Matthew Kerr Jnr know the good news.

Matthew Jnr and his son John then visited Aarhus in 2004 to see the wonderful little loco and the complete the cycle, it was a very memorable trip!

We still have one of the original carriages here at KMR and the original guards van also exsists down in England at a private railway.

Anyway, we just thought we'd share this story with you during these difficult times! Stay safe everyone and we look forward to welcoming you down here for a ride when the lockdown ends! πŸ˜πŸš‚

Thanks and please like and share! πŸ™‚

Hello folks, a not so happy update this time as it's with a very heavy heart that we have to tell you that one of our long standing volunteers, Norrie Sneddon, has sadly passed away.

Many of you will remember Norrie driving the train, bus and fire engine down in West Links Park. He was most happy when telling stories and chatting away to all the visitors to the railway and was also always on hand with his dog biscuits to give to all his four legged friends who visited him!

Not having the happy chappy around that was Norrie will be a huge loss to us at KMR but not just to us but to Arbroath, his family and friends.

Thank you for all that you were... ❀

NEWS UPDATE

Hello everyone, we'd just like to thank those who came out today to support the railway, we really could do with more days like it!

Anyway, folk have been asking if we are open tomorrow for the "bank holiday" and the answer is no we won't be, apologies. The railway is however open at weekends 11AM - 4PM weather permitting and will be until the end of September.

Please make sure you come and have a ride on the railway before you run out of time this year! Only 5 weekends left so don't miss out!

For the local people only. When was the last time you had a stroll down the West Links with your family and came for a hurl on the train or bus or fire engine? Think about it carefully, it really isn't difficult and really would help us out a lot!

That's all for now folks, enjoy the sunshine and we'll see you soon!

NEWS UPDATE

We at Kerr's Miniature Railway are very pleased and excited to announce that our fire engine will soon be off to 'Emergency One' who will be restoring and bringing our old girl up to 21st century fire and rescue standards. She will be fitted out with the latest kit and technology including cutting gear, breathing equipment and blue lights and sirens.

This is due to a shortage of fire engines within Scotland so when the 'Scottish Fire and Rescue Service' approached us with the request to borrow her and as she wasn't being used all that often in West Links Park we just couldn't refuse!

Once overhauled, our fire engine will be based at 'Arbroath Fire Station' and will be on call to attend any 999 emergency calls in the area! The firefighters at the station just can't wait to get to use her!

Thanks for your support, please like and share so that everyone can be on the lookout for what will be the coolest fire engine on the road! πŸ˜πŸš’πŸ”₯🌑

Hello everyone!

Just a wee note to say that we had a fantastic first day of the season yesterday and it looks like today is going to be another cracker! The sun is shining but there's still a wee nip in the air so be sure to wrap up warm!

On another note, due to unforeseen circumstances, we have taken the decision to now only open at weekends. If this situation changes then we'll be sure to update you!

That's all for now folks, we hope to see you soon! πŸš‚πŸ€—πŸŽŸ

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the lack of updates recently! We are now getting ready for opening in just over two weeks for our 2019 season! Are you excited?! We certainly are! 😁

The railway will be open daily from the 30th March for three weeks weather permitting from 11 - 4.

As a side point, steam locomotive 'Tornado' (pictured below) will be passing through Arbroath tomorrow at around 13:30 and again at around 18:50. Why not pop down to one of the bridges and wave to the driver...who knows, you might even get a toot from the whistle back!

We look forward to seeing you soon! Thank you for your interest! Please like and share! πŸš‚πŸ˜πŸ›€

Hello folks, just a quick word to say that today is the last running day of the year! It's been a tough year for us with numbers at an all time low but we would like to thank our regular customers for continuing to come along and support us during this difficult time.

Anyway, we hope to see as many of you as possible down at the railway today to end our season on a high! Please tell all your friends and family to come out and enjoy this wonderful historic attraction and in the sunshine too! Trains will be running from 11-4 weather permitting.

See you soon and thank you! πŸš‚πŸš„πŸŒžπŸ–

Good evening folks!

We'd just like to thank everyone that's visited KMR this summer during our daily operating period. That's the railway now back to opening weekends only 11-4 weather permitting.

The passenger numbers did pick up half way through the local school holidays thanks to some great publicity and support from our followers and friends of the railway, however, this seems to have been short lived and once again numbers are dwindling.

We only have the weekends in August and September left before we shut for the season (we may also operate during the tattie holidays if there is the demand and weather for it) so please please please make sure that you make the most of the railway being open and make sure you tell all your friends and family so that one no-one is dissapointed and two we end our season on a high!

Thank you very much for your support and we look forward to seeing you soon! πŸš‚πŸ˜πŸŒž

On another note we thought we'd share a historic photo of the railway from the early days. The locomotive featured is called 'Gladstone' with Matthew Kerr Snr driving and the carriages were for first class ticket holders only...oh those were the days! Please tell us your stories if you remember this! ☺

Firefly is in steam again!

Why not come down and have a ride this afternoon and make the most of this lovely weather! Trains will be running until at least 4pm and maybe after if people keep coming!

Please come and support the railway by having a ride with your friends and family! As mentioned in recent articles, numbers have been very poor so far this year so we need your help to get the figures back on track!

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you all soon! πŸ˜πŸš‚πŸ–

Hello everyone! We have two exciting things to tell you! Firstly that's the railway now open daily for the summer school holidays, we will be running every day 11-4 until at least the middle of August and then maybe till the end of August but we will confirm that later. The other exciting thing is what's happening in the picture..can you guess?

Yes that's right, Firefly has returned from her travels down south and to celebrate we have once more lit a fire in her! She will be pulling the trains this afternoon until 4ish!

So come on down for a ride behind a steam train in the sun! We look forward to seeing you soon!

Hello everyone!

It's an absolutely gorgeous day down here in West Links Park! The train, bus and fire engine will be running until 4pm. We will also be running tomorrow for the bank holiday 11am - 4pm weather permitting and again it's looking like it's going to be another fantastic day!

Please like and share and help the railway get back on track, excuse the pun, for this season as sadly we didn't have the best of starts due to the horrible weather during the Easter holidays.

We look forward to seeing you soon and remember to bring your sunglasses and sun cream! πŸ˜ŽπŸš‚πŸŒž

I have been sorting through the late David Curwen collection which I have been left to sort and will look out for items in it that are relevant to your line. Just came across this photo which I am sure you will have seen before as it has your stamp on the rear!
In the evening telegraph few weeks in November I found
Hi. Are you going to be open this coming week? Hoping to come down Thursday.
Great time at Kerr's miniature railway today will be back again soon
Are you guys only open weekends at the mo? We were along on Wednesday but you weren’t open....I’m being pestered today but don’t wanna come along if you’re closed! Thanks
I found this photo today when looking through my dads collection. ❀️
Will you be open tomorrow, Good Friday?
Would like to share these with you.. I new the late Mathew kerr fairly well my grandad lived in arbroath spent my childhood holidays. Was always fascinated by the old blue coach that lay disintegrating in the yard taken around 1988 the first pic being my dad and my other grandparents
Hiya! Over from northern Ireland for a visit, just checking to see if you are planning on being open tomorrow?
I remember the Miniature railway at Arbroath! Nearly 60 years ago, when I was a wee laddie, a trip on the miniature railway was always a feature of a holiday or day trip to Arbroath. It had never occurred to me that the little trains might still be running! I remember a miniature single-deck bus that ran alongside the rail track as well- is that still there? I'll definitely be visiting next time I'm back in Scotland!
As someone who has been a Kerr's fan since childhood (I'm now 63) i was very concerned to read about the recent poor visitor numbers. This is a unique attraction and something which Arbroath and Angus should be making more of. I'm sure I remember that there used to be a board placed at the side of the dual carriageway advertising 'Trains running today' or something similar but I don't recall having seen it recently. Without some sort of advertising at the roadside there is nothing to draw tourist attention to the wonderful railway. Trains are big business with children in particular nowadays (I have a grandson and yes, we have been on it!) therefore I would have thought a large colourful sign boasting of this outstanding tourist attraction would reap benefits, especially if placed where passing cars and buses can see it. Good luck for the future and I would love to see the track extended!
The traction on the day we paid our visit, a lovely trip along the line with a lovely garden the full length
