Have you got lots of photos of Andover during the 1950s?
Once the Museum of The Iron Age & Andover Museum opens again we’d like to resume our project to change the display each year in our shop front in the Weyhill room of our Andover museum. But whilst we’re waiting we’d love your help to find photos of Andover during the 1950s to tell the story about how the town and people’s lives changed during that decade. We’d especially like to see photos of iconic Andover buildings, people, shops, what pastimes people had, fashion, work life, school life, cultural activities/ events, music and more!
If you’re able to scan your photos and email them to us please send them, with some info about the photo, e.g. when, where, why, what & who was in the photo. To [email protected]
We’ll then contact you in the future once we’re open again and if we’re able to use your photo/s for our temporary ‘Andover in the 50s’ display. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Had a lovely visit to the museum today. Obviously had to have a selfie with Mary. My 5 year old wasn't so keen and called her scary Mary. She did love finding the penguins though and we had to go round again to find the ones we missed. We enjoyed looking at the exhibits and learning a little bit of history!
The exhibition, entitled: 'Too much iron can lead to vision loss' has been made possible by CAS director David Dixon with the fantastic help and support of CAS artists Susan Francis and Maija Liepins, Jacqui Ready and all the wonderful staff and volunteers at the museum.
Hi, it has been, and still is, a pleasure and an honor to show my artwork at Museum of The Iron Age & Andover Museum. Here is a link to my blog where you can see and read documentations from the performative drawing 'The historian of promise' (12.1 - 18.1.2019).
I went to visit this place for the first time today - it was so well organised, interesting, bright, and had a cafe!! And the staff were well informed and kindly. There was an Andover Embroidery Guild exhibition on, and it was truly, breath taking - beautiful! Highly recommended!
Please encourage anyone, 5 to 15years, if they enjoy creative writing or telling a story with drawings or cartoon characters to enter this competition! £20 prize! All they have to do is visit the Museum at least twice and do some research for their story of 500 words or less. Entry form must be completed. Closing date 4th September 2018.
Please join us for our concert on 14 July at St. Mary's, Andover to mark the end of WW1. Details on the poster:under 14s free. Proceeds to Combat Stress.
Ooh, I remember this lady and glad she has some hair on her head now!
In late autumn I was able to put doors on the house. They are cowskin, taken from longhorn cattle.
Hello again! In the last year I have completed a construct of another house from Danebury. This is CS14. It is 7.3m diameter, stake built, with oak door frame.
Quick selfie with Mary at the museum today
