Volunteers’ Week 2026 (1–7 June)
This week we’re celebrating the incredible volunteers who make Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery such a welcoming and vibrant place.
From supporting exhibitions and caring for collections to helping visitors and working behind the scenes, our volunteers give their time, skills and enthusiasm to everything we do, and we simply couldn’t do it without them.

"Ended, the exhibition has. Memories, take with you you will".
Our current exhibition may have now ended however Bailiffgate tells the story of 10,000 years of history of Alnwick. Located in a Grade 2 listed church. It’s a welcoming, accessible and inspiring place to visit run by a friendly and creative team of volunteers. A wide range of events, activities and exhibitions take place throughout the year. You will find 2 floors of the museum which display artefacts which take you through the history of Alnwick and a top floor gallery space which displays a changing programme of temporary exhibitions, so pop back again to see what’s new! Students – looking for something great to add to your CV this summer?
If you’ve got some free time at weekends and would like to build your skills outside of lectures, we’d love to hear from you.
Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery is looking for weekend volunteers (18+) to help welcome visitors and support our weekend opening.
Why join us?
• Gain real-world experience
• Build confidence and communication skills
• Enjoy flexible weekends around study time or the university break
• Be part of a friendly team with full training provided
• And yes – tea, biscuits, and a lovely atmosphere too
This is a great opportunity if you’re studying history, heritage, arts, or education, or if you’d simply like to try something new, meet people, and get involved in your local community.
Please note volunteers must be 18 or over due to safeguarding requirements.

Bank Holiday Opening Hours Update
Due to volunteer availability over the Bank Holiday weekend, we have had to make some temporary changes to our opening hours.

Saturday 23rd May – 10am- 3pm
Sunday 24th May- 11am- 4pm
Bank Holiday Monday 25th May- 11am-2pm

We are incredibly grateful for the time and commitment our volunteers give to help us stay open, and these adjustments this weekend allow us to continue welcoming our visitors while supporting those who generously give their time.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and continued support. Please check our updated opening hours below before visiting.
