Science and Heritage – How to Heat Your House!
When William and Anne Haworth had their house built they wanted the modern luxuries. One of these luxuries was to have central heating. This was a complex ventilation system to ensure that the warm air circulated through the house.
When walking around the top floor of the gallery you will see beautiful metal grates on the floor complete with William's initials. These form part of the ventilation network allowing the warm air to travel through the house.
William and Anne also had fireplaces put in all the rooms so that the traditional way of heating was also possible. I wonder which they found the most effective?
