Internationally renowned sculpture set to arrive in Accrington…

Lumini, designed by Alan Parkinson, are beautiful and huge art installations are inspired by natural forms, geometric shapes, Islamic and gothic architecture. Visitors are invited to step inside to be immersed in radiant colour, created from daylight shining through the fabric.

With bookable workshops running 12th – 16th June there is something for everyone to enjoy including yoga, family music workshops and Tai Chi.

The community are also invited to attend heritage-themed workshops, led by local artists and performers, where people will be asked to imagine how a new building development can represent them.

This will help inform ongoing work for a new heritage centre, being developed on Accrington Town Square within Market Chambers building, opposite the Market Hall.

A three layered cake and a piece of Tiffany glass shimmering with the iridescent rainbow effect. What do they have in common?

Seemingly nothing at all. Until you find out that a piece of Tiffany glass with iridescence can be formed by a bulk layer of glass, an overlay layer and an iridescent one! There's your three layers there too.

Would you like to know more about iridescence? Come tomorrow to our free tour at 1pm at Haworth Art Gallery. No need to book, just come in the Guest room on the first floor of the gallery, where the tour will commence.

The British Textile Biennial and Showtown, Blackpool are looking for a creative to design and build a mobile pop up exhibition structure to house and tour a collection of photographs and postcards of Blackpool Wakes Week from 1900-1939. It is planned to take the pop up exhibition to family festivals, events and care homes across Lancashire.

Through touring the exhibition, British Textile Biennial will gather oral histories from the people who have lived and remembered experience of Wakes Weeks, to build into an online archive and exhibition to be hosted as part of the www.lancashiretextilegallery.com website.

We hope the exhibition design will respond to/reference the visual imagery of Victorian seaside and/or Lancashire mills and evoke the vibrancy and excitement of Wakes Weeks.

🗓️ Application deadline: Friday 7th June

Budget: £5,000 which must cover fees, expenses, materials and delivery.

Full brief, resources and application process can be found on our website at https://britishtextilebiennial.co.uk/news/open-call-wakes-week-pop-up-mobile-exhibition-stand/ 🔗

Museum Association Code of Ethics: Partner organisation
Pennine Lancashire Museums and Schools (PLMS)

A partner is an organisation that has a formal relationship with our museum and collaborates with activities and/or funding opportunities.
Today we will like to introduce PLMS, a group of heritage sites and museums across Pennine Lancashire that has created a programme focused on facilitating relationships and engagement between schools and museums.

Through collaboration, sharing of experiences and their own collections the group works on creating a learning offer for schools and promote visits to heritage sites and museums.

Museum Association (MA) Code of Ethics: Item
An item within a museum doesn't just mean something that is physical. It can be a non-tangible or digital object, or material held by a museum.

My choice of item from the gallery is the bronze mercury statue at the bottom of the stairs.
I've chosen this item because of my love for any type of mythology but also because of the amusement it brings to visitors of all ages when they see it.

Our oil and sculpture collections are available to view online at artuk.org.
