In November and December, we’ll be presenting a new exhibition with Burkinabè photographer Sanlé Sory.

In the 1970s and ’80s, Sory photographed his friends, his community, and the vibrant world around him. He was also deeply connected to music and nightlife, and founded Volta Photo, his legendary studio.

This image is quite rare in his work: there is no one in it. I love it for precisely that reason. It captures the atmosphere of music, style, and freedom in 1970s Africa with incredible charm.

A truly gorgeous photograph.

Sory’s new book, published soon by Phaidon, will be available at the gallery.

Here is Jean-François Leroy, journalist and co-creator, with Roger Thérond, of the photography festival Visa pour l’Image.

A man of passion, with a true love for life and for photography.

For many years, I used to go to Perpignan for the festival — always a wonderful moment, filled with remarkable exhibitions, great encounters, long conversations and, of course, memorable parties.

Jean-François passed away two days ago.

Rest in peace, gentleman.

I believe this picture of us was taken sometime in the late ’90s.

This portrait was shot by Rankin in the 90’s.

This is the 1st limited edition print of Rankin I have sold 23 years ago to a famous architect.

This handsome young man turns 20 today. A crazy youth. Rare beauty. A talent that commands respect.

Barring any major setback, it is very likely that this 20-year-old will be Formula 1 World Champion by the end of the year. (With his Mercedes) An unimaginable achievement. A genius in the making.

Just remember what you were doing when you were 20 !?!?

Charles Robert Watts joined the Rolling Stones in 1963. To me he was the soul of the band. The elegant one.
The drummer that everyone called Charlie passed away 5 years ago, on August 24th 2021. 🖤 He was not only passionate with rock, but with jazz as well.
That photograph was shot in 1975 by Lynn Goldsmith.
