Jerry Gogosian is gone. And with her, the sharpest — and most necessary — voice in the contemporary art world.
Hilde Lynn Helphenstein built a critical empire from a sickbed, armed with an Instagram account, razor-sharp memes, and a brilliant pseudonym: a mashup of Jerry Saltz and Larry Gagosian. 151,000 followers. Galleries on edge. An art market that never quite knew whether to laugh or be afraid.
She was 40. She died on May 31st in São Paulo, under circumstances still under investigation.

Last Saturday at the Centre Pompidou-Metz, someone walked up and took — most likely ate — Comedian, Maurizio Cattelan's legendary artwork: a single banana taped to a wall. The good news? The piece is technically "undamaged." Its value lies not in the fruit itself, but in its certificate of authenticity. A fresh banana was back on the wall within the hour.

🎨 Julio Le Parc passed away on May 30, 2026, at the age of 97. But his work will never stop moving.
This Argentine artist arrived in Paris in 1958 with a scholarship and revolutionary ideas — and proceeded to challenge everything: light as material, movement as language, and you, the viewer, as the true protagonist of the artwork.
Grand Prix at the Venice Biennale in 1966. Expelled from France in May 1968 for his political beliefs. Works held at MoMA, the Centre Pompidou, and the Tate Modern. And always, right up until the end, creating something new.

36 years old. That's all the time she was given.

Paula Kamps, a blazingly talented German painter, passed away on May 27, 2026. Too soon. Far too soon.

She had barely begun. Her watercolor paintings — dissolving figures, flowers that keep their secrets — had already captivated Paris, Chicago, and Beijing. The art world had just discovered her. Now it has lost her.

36 years old. The age when some artists are still looking for their first gallery. She leaves behind an international body of work, permanent collections, and an immense void. 🖤
