TRACES HABITÉES
NASREDDINE BENNACER & BILAL BAHIR
Traces habitées brings together two ways of giving the past a presence through drawing.
On Japanese paper, Nasreddine Bennacer explores gesture, erasure and the emergence of form. His black pastel drawings revisit the vestiges of the Arab world, reconnecting with a heritage distanced by ruptures in its transmission. Arches, façades and vegetation hover between appearance and disappearance.
On antique papers, maps and documents, Bilal Bahir intertwines childhood memories, Mesopotamian narratives and a history marked by exile. The materials’ own histories become part of imagined scenes where poetry meets political unease.
For both artists, paper is an active space: it carries history, transforms the trace and allows what has been displaced or obscured to emerge in the present.
