EXCELLENCE HAS NO S*X - EVA HESSE

A couple of studio hours at last, so decided to spend some time with EVA HESSE, playing with stencils and thinking how she would have liked to be depicted. She was very experimental with form and materials so I wanted to make her all about those two things.

Just beginning to explore stencils and still amazed at the simplicity of it, the freedom and the sheer, child like fun of it all. I'm hooked....

J'ai enfin pu passer quelques heures dans mon atelier ; j'ai donc décidé de consacrer un peu de temps à EVA HESSE, en jouant avec des pochoirs et en imaginant comment elle aurait aimé être représentée. Elle était très expérimentale en matière de formes et de matériaux, j'ai donc voulu mettre l'accent sur ces deux aspects.

Je commence tout juste à explorer les pochoirs et je suis encore émerveillée par leur simplicité, la liberté qu’ils procurent et le plaisir enfantin qu’ils procurent. Je suis accro…

LA FIÈVRE DES POCHOIRS - LOVE LIFE

En attendant de recevoir mon matériel de sérigraphie, j’ai décidé de continuer à travailler avec des pochoirs en papier et des pinceaux. C’est vraiment difficile d’éviter que les contours ne débordent, mais les chevauchements maladroits et les décalages semblent ajouter au charme de l’image. Je n’ai jamais rien créé d’aussi a « pop » auparavant, et je commence à adorer ça.....
Alors que l'été touche à sa fin et que l'automne s'installe, je repense aux paroles de David Hockney : « Je préfère vivre en couleur. »

STENCIL FEVER - LOVE LIFE

Whilst waiting for some screen printing kit to arrive, thought I'd keep going with paper stencils and brushes. It's really difficult not to get bleeding edges, but clumsy overlaps and mis registering seem to add to the quality of the image. I've never produced anything this bold and pop before, kind of falling in love with it.
As summer fades and autumn arrives, I think of David Hockney's words 'I prefer living in colour.'

CHAGALL DÉBARQUE À PÉRIGUEUX !

C'est incroyable ce qu'on peut faire avec quelques pochoirs, un peu de peinture et du matériel de base. Merci à tous ceux qui sont passés chez Artplus dimanche pour notre atelier de pochoirs et qui ont contribué à la réalisation d'une œuvre collective. Ces petits gestes collectifs peuvent transformer le monde en un endroit ensoleillé et positif !
J'ai hâte de recevoir le matériel nécessaire pour organiser un atelier de sérigraphie avec des pochoirs. À suivre...

AVANT, PENDANT ET APRÈS...

Nous lançons nos ateliers d’été de gravure avec l’impression au gel. On a tendance à sous-estimer cette technique : pas assez d’outils, d’étapes ou de difficultés ! Le plus grand atout de commencer par cette technique, c’est la LIBERTÉ qu’elle insuffle aux participants : la liberté de repousser les limites, d’utiliser des combinaisons de couleurs inhabituelles, de jouer et de se laisser aller, de garder pour plus t**d afin de l'associer à une autre techniqued, ou bien mettre le bazar puis de le réparer ou de tout jeter !

Nous avons ajouté un nouveau volet au cours pour aborder ce qu’il faut faire une fois que l’on dispose d’une énorme pile d’estampes (en moyenne 20 en 2 heures) : faire le tri, se concentrer sur l’ajout de lignes et d’effets, monter ou encadrer les aspects prometteurs d’une estampe, puis passer à autre chose…

BEFORE, DURING & AFTER
Launching our summer printmaking workshops with gel printing. It's easy to look down on this technique, not enough tools, steps or heartache ! The best aspect of beginning with this technique is the FREEDOM it instills in people: freedom to push boundaries, to use unusual colour combinations, to play and just let go, to save it for later to combine with another technique, to make a mess & then resolve it or throw it away !
We've added a new component of the course to look at what to do after you've got a huge sheaf of prints (on average 20 after 2 hours) : editing, focusing on adding lines and effects, mounting or framing potential aspects of a print and moving on to something else....
Thanks to our wonderful students for their energy and enthusiasm !

SAUNA & COLLAGRAPH !

Hier, le défi proposé par le Print Club consistait à travailler ensemble pour s'essayer à la COLLAGRAPHIE. Aucun d'entre nous ne connaissait cette technique ; nous avons donc passé une journée très agréable à échanger des idées et à partager du matériel.

C'était peut-être dû à la chaleur, mais tout le monde a réalisé des œuvres très colorées, totalement différentes de ce que nous faisons d'habitude ! Les résultats sont mitigés, mais cette technique offre un grand potentiel de développement...

SAUNA & COLLAGRAPH !

Yesterday's challenge for the Print Club was to work alongside each other to experiment with COLLAGRAPH. Not a technique that any of us knew about, so we had a fun day sharing ideas and materials. Maybe it was something to do with the heat, everyone produced highly colourful work, totally different from what we normally do ! Mixed results with lots of potential for development.....

ART YOU READY FOR PRINT CLUB ?

ARTPLUS est très fier de présenter les magnifiques travaux des membres de son PRINT CLUB !
Leur exposition ouvre ce dimanche 28 juin et se poursuit jusqu’au 11 juillet. Dimanche, vous pouvez passer nous voir, rencontrer les artistes et découvrir ce que signifient réellement des mots comme 'eau-forte, pointe sèche ou manière noire' !

Un immense merci à toutes celles et ceux qui nous ont rejoints et qui ont contribué à faire naître ce PRINT CLUB — petit mais costaud ! Nous avons adoré vous voir expérimenter, évoluer et gagner en confiance, et nous avons déjà hâte de la rentrée, lorsque nous recommencerons… autrement.

ART YOU READY FOR PRINT CLUB ?

ARTPLUS is immensely proud to showcase the wonderful work of the members of our PRINT CLUB !
Their exhibition opens this Sunday 28th June and runs until the 11th July. On Sunday you can drop in and talk to them and discover what the words 'etching, drypoint, mezzotint...' actually mean !
Thanks to all of you who have showed up and made this nascent PRINT CLUB, SMALL BUT MIGHTY ! We've enjoyed watching you experiment, grow and gain confidence and we're looking forward to post summer when we begin again but differently....
