European Heritage Days are this weekend!!!
On 19 and 20 September, the fort will open its doors to the public.
The guided tour (approximately 1 hour) will take you on a journey of discovery through the gorge barracks, the ditches and the cavalier, helping you understand how a fort functioned and see the traces left by the fighting of 1914.
During the self-guided visit, you can explore the museum using the dedicated app and discover the Battle of Maubeuge and the daily lives of soldiers during the First World War.
A chance to bring their words back to life…
What if, during European Heritage Days, you took a moment to sit down and listen to the words of those who witnessed the fighting at the fort in 1914?
Through the accounts left to us by soldiers from the fort’s garrison, we invite you to share a special moment of readings and hear their stories.
Fernand Denis, quartermaster sergeant, Louis Bourdon, artilleryman, and Léon Natier, the fort’s doctor, have left us powerful accounts of 7 September 1914.
Each, in his own words, describes those hours of anguish under the bombardment of the German heavy artillery, when 120 of their comrades lost their lives within the walls of Fort de Leveau.
