Hannu shared valuable insights on how to communicate more clearly about being an LGBTQ+ friendly destination and how to make our communication more inclusive.

This week, we're happy to have textile conservator Taina working with our collections. She has created a hanging for one of our tapestries and given some much-needed care to the upholstery of a chair.

Taking care of Villa Mairea's delicate artworks and historic furniture is a job for skilled hands. We are grateful to have professionals like Taina helping us preserve these treasures for the future.

The inscription of the Aalto Works on the UNESCO World Heritage List is an extraordinary recognition of the universal value of Finnish architecture and of the visionary work of Alvar, Aino and Elissa Aalto.

Villa Mairea is proud to be part of this remarkable legacy. As one of the Aaltos' most celebrated residential works, it embodies a unique dialogue between architecture, art and nature, continuing to inspire visitors, researchers and architects from around the world.

The new UNESCO World Heritage status strengthens the international significance of the Aalto legacy and reminds us of our shared responsibility: not only to preserve these exceptional places, but to ensure they remain vibrant, accessible and meaningful for future generations.

We warmly congratulate everyone whose dedication has made this recognition possible. Together, we celebrate a milestone for Finnish architecture and cultural heritage.

Aalto Works has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Villa Mairea is a part of the series! 🍾❤️

Aalto Works series consists of 13 architectural sites around Finland. The desicion to approve it on the List was made in Busan South Korea on July 26th and making it the eighth World Heritage site in Finland.

The curved brick wall in Villa Mairea's entrance hall is lined with rhythmically spaced wooden poles, evoking the rhythm of a forest. This detail reinforces the building's overall concept of bringing the atmosphere of the forest indoors.

Today, we celebrate the wedding anniversary of Maire and Harry Gullichsen.
They were united by a strong belief in the importance of art, architecture, and culture. Together, they championed a new kind of Finnish design, promoted contemporary art, and gave Aino and Alvar Aalto the opportunity to design a home that became one of the most renowned masterpieces of modern architecture.
