CHART Art Fair | Booth 21 | Päivi Takala
PÄIVI TAKALA paints precise and luminous paintings that carry a quiet, serene quality, crystallizing questions of existing and co-existing in the world. The soft palette of sand, deep darks and vivid blues nods to the quiet precence of early Renaissance frescoes, as do the floating hands caressing the black swan or holding the iridescent feathers. During her extensive career, Takala has explored painting as medium through disintegration, modification and reparation by for example physically perforating, sawing, and patching the paintings back together with cement. In her latest works she has focused on our complicated relationship living with other beings – horses, birds or flora.
Päivi Takala (b. 1970, FI) graduated from Hochschule der Künste, Berlin in 1998, and University of Art and Design, Helsinki in 1996. She has works in major collections, both private and institutional. Apart from museums inf Finland, she has exhibited in past years also at Ulterior Gallery, New York (2026), Malmö Art Museum (2021–24), Art Museum Riga Bourse (2017) with solo exhibitions at i.a. Cecilia Hillström Gallery, Stockholm (2025); Galerie Anhava (2024), Turku Art Museum (2013), Galleri Lars Olsen (2013), and Gallery Bourouina, Berlin (2011). In addition to her artistic work, Takala has just been appointed as the Professor of Painting at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts after teaching there as a Lecturer since 2014.
