Queen Rosalie Gicanda was the last queen of Rwanda 🇷🇼 . She was killed during the 1994 genocide.

The Rwanda Genocide is One of the reason why Rwanda banned the recognition of tribe.

The Bodi ( or Mekan / Me'en ) live near the Omo river and are the neighbours of the Mursi. Some women wear a small clayplate under their lower lip. This is a statussymbol and means that they have had at least 3 children. The Bodi are under a lot of pressure of the sugarcane factories that are being build in their territory.

The internationally recognized artist, Afewerk Tekle, was born in the town of Ankober in Ethiopia on October 22, 1932.
At just age 22, he held his first one-man show in Addis Ababa, at Municipality Hall, which gave him the funds to travel around Europe for two years where he learned how to design and construct stained glass windows.
By 1964, He became the first laureate of the Haile Selassie I Prize for Fine Arts. His designs and inspirations were printed on stamps and national costumes. He also worked on some of the first sculptures depicting Ethiopian national heroes. Most notably, he designed the stained glass window artwork in Africa Hall at the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

In 1981, his painting Self-portrait was the first work by an African artist to enter the permanent collection of the Uffizi Gallery, Florence, Italy.

Afework won his first international prize in the year 1997 after he exhibited his artworks at the Biennale of Aquitaine, France.

He is also the first African to be a member of the Russian Academy of Arts.
Maître Artiste World Laureate Afewerk Tekle died on 10 April 2012 from severe stomach ulcer complications after receiving treatment at a private hospital in Addis Ababa and was buried at the cemetery of the Holy Trinity Cathedral at Addis Ababa.

The artist’s residence, ‘Villa Alpha’, which he designed and used it as a studio and gallery is expected to be opened for the public as a museum...
