LUIS ROYO IN HERITAGE AUCTIONS

🇬🇧 On October 24 and 25, Heritage Auctions will hold a new edition of its International Comic Art Signature Auction in Dallas, featuring a prominent selection of works by Luis Royo. Five original pieces will be offered, with the iconic painting Los Hilos de los Sueños selected for the official catalogue cover. 🎨

Alongside this central work, originally created for the book Dreams and later featured on the cover of Heavy Metal magazine, the auction includes four additional artworks (Projects 2 – Taarna, Angel Station, Elektra Natchios, Angel Station, and To Trade the Stars) illustrating key moments and commissions throughout his international career.

El pasado jueves 17 de septiembre tuvimos el placer de asistir a la presentación del cartel del XXV Salón del Cómic de Zaragoza, que se celebrará del 11 al 13 de diciembre de 2026 en la Sala Multiusos del Auditorio de Zaragoza. La presentación, celebrada en el Centro Cívico Estación del Norte, fue una tarde muy especial, llena de arte, humor, música y sorpresas.

El momento más esperado fue el descubrimiento del cartel de esta edición, una obra creada por Luis Royo y Romulo Royo para celebrar los 25 años del Salón del Cómic de Zaragoza. En él, los artistas establecen un sugerente diálogo entre el pasado y el futuro, entre la obra de uno de los grandes maestros de la pintura española, Francisco de Goya, y una visión futurista representada por uno de sus característicos personajes. Una mirada a cómo el arte, la belleza y la creatividad pueden trascender el tiempo y conectar diferentes épocas.

Muchas gracias a todos los que hicisteis posible esta presentación y, por supuesto, a todos los que nos acompañasteis. Fue un verdadero placer compartir con vosotros una tarde tan especial.

✨ From our gallery to their new homes. 🏡🎨

The 5 Limited Edition artworks we gave away in August are now arriving at their new homes, a tribute by Luis Royo and Romulo Royo to one of Aragón’s great masters: Francisco de Goya y Lucientes.

Four of our five winners have already sent us photos with their artworks, and we couldn’t be happier to see them in their new homes. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who took part and, above all, for joining us and sharing our passion for art.

Because an artwork can begin its journey in our gallery… and travel much farther than we could ever imagine. 🎨✨

Romulo Royo, born in Spain, is an internationally acclaimed contemporary artist and a master of introspective imagery. His work does not simply seek to “show” a world, but to “evoke” a state of mind. An undisputed pioneer in bringing fantasy art into the realm of contemporary art, Royo has broken the invisible barrier that once separated “genre art” from avant-garde fine art painting.

His international career includes exhibitions at institutions such as the MEAM and Can Framis Museum in Barcelona, the National Museum Metelkova in Slovenia, and the National Museum of Alexandria, as well as participation in major art fairs and auctions, including ARCO, Art Miami, FIAC, Art Forum Berlin, Christie’s, and Ketterer Kunst.

In Hecate and the Dragon, this artistic evolution reaches a particularly powerful expression. The work interweaves classical mythology with the visual language of cinema and contemporary aesthetics, creating a distinctive universe that moves between a new form of fantastic art and echoes of surrealism. Drawing on the tradition of the Old Masters, the principle of ut pictura poesis, Renaissance theories of imitation, and contemporary Neo-Japanese aesthetics, Royo does not simply reproduce reality but transforms it into a world of his own.

Hecate and the Dragon therefore embodies the evocative and iconic dimension of his work, while contributing to the broader recognition of fantasy art as a legitimate and significant language within contemporary fine art.

THE CREATOR HORN, by Romulo Royo, is one of the pieces on display in our gallery. It always draws attention, not only because it is one of the first large-scale works visitors encounter upon entering, but also because of its sheer magnificence.

On June 5th, we welcomed to our gallery the group from La Bienal de Zaragoza, organized by Art History PhD Alejandra Rguezcunch.

Thank you, Alejandra, for introducing our space and the work of our artists, Romulo Royo and Luis Royo, and to the attendees, including Manu Expósito, May Forcen, David Almazán, and Ana Revillas.

It was a pleasure to share conversations with everyone and enjoy a small refreshment together on a day that can only be described as fantastic.
