French Steel Cuirass, Model 1807
An authentic example dating from the Peninsular War (1808–1814), bearing the stamped mark of the Parisian manufacturer Zuderell, attesting to its production within the French imperial supply system.
In 1810, during the action at Mollet, a squadron of French cuirassiers belonging to the 3rd Provisional Regiment—composed largely of inexperienced troops—was captured. Their equipment, including cuirasses such as the present example, was subsequently repurposed to equip a Spanish regiment of cuirassiers.
Following the conclusion of the conflict, many of these cuirasses remained in Spanish service and were later issued to the Spanish Royal Guard.

COMING SOON
Genoese Renaissance Cabinet “a bambocci”
Origin: Genoa
Date: Late 16th – early 17th century
Materials: Solid walnut and walnut burl veneers
Technique: Relief carving, architectural cabinetmaking, traditional joinery
Type: Cabinet / architectural stipo
Description:
Renaissance cabinet of pronounced architectural conception, organized as a tripartite façade with a strongly emphasized central axis. It features a central arched door flanked by carved figures and surmounted by a triangular pediment. On either side are independent compartments with individual locks, while the lower section is composed of a series of drawers and the upper register is enriched with relief busts.
The sculptural decoration, characteristic of the a bambocci style, includes atlantes, anthropomorphic figures, and busts that serve both structural and ornamental functions. These figures are fully integrated into the overall composition, enhancing the cabinet’s plasticity and scenographic presence.
The fronts of the drawers and doors are veneered in walnut burl, creating a rich visual and material contrast with the carved areas in solid wood. The design reflects classical models, with a clear influence from Italian Renaissance architecture.
Interior:
Complex arrangement of drawers and compartments, typically including concealed spaces (segreti) intended for storing documents and valuables.
Condition:
Good overall condition consistent with its age, showing surface wear and a patina resulting from use and the passage of time.
Notes:
A representative example of high-end Genoese furniture, in which function, sculpture, and architecture converge in a single object. Pieces of this type were conceived both for private use and for the display of social status.

Fase desk lamp, model 520C.
Spain, 1960s.
Designed by Luis Pérez de la Oliva and produced by the Madrid-based firm Fase, this piece stands as a notable example of mid-20th century Spanish industrial design. The model 520C is distinguished by the clarity of its lines and its balance between form and function—hallmarks of Fase’s production during this period.
Its elegant curved chromed steel arm creates a dynamic silhouette, contrasting with the solidity of the bronze-lacquered metal base. The adjustable shade, designed to accommodate two light sources and a diffuser, provides efficient and controlled illumination, reinforcing both its aesthetic and functional qualities.
Manufactured in Madrid, this lamp reflects the modernity and technical refinement of Spanish industry in the 1960s, in dialogue with international design movements of the time.
Example in excellent condition.

There is no greater gift than spending a morning in a master cabinetmaker’s workshop.
Among the grain of the wood and the scent of sawdust, time itself seems to slow.
At 78, Enrique is part of Valencia’s living history — wise hands, a steady gaze, and a craft that breathes through every piece he shapes.
He continues to work each day, not out of habit, but out of love.
I can only feel deep admiration for this remarkable artisan — and even more for the extraordinary human being he is.

Seated Virgin with Child (Sedes Sapientiae), Romanesque sculpture

This group belongs to a type of representation of the Virgin known as Sedes Sapientiae (the Seat of Wisdom), which was a popular representation in European art from the 12th to the 15th centuries. The imagery emphasizes the Virgin’s role as the principal mediator between God and man.
In this sculpture, the Virgin is seated on a throne, adorned with traces of polychrome, with the Child on her lap; both figures look at the viewer in a typically Romanesque posture.

The goat herder – colored ink drawing – Mariano Fortuny y Marsal (1838–1874).

The partially illuminated ink represents a woman sitting in what appears to be a small boat, surrounded by goats grazing on a grassy shore, with the inscription „R. 1869“ in the lower right corner.
The signature „Fortuny / R. 1869“ is a well-known and documented inscription used by the famous Spanish painter Mariano Fortuny y Marsal (1838-1874).

This particular signature appears on Fortuny’s works such as „A Moroccan,“ which is in the collection of the Prado Museum, and on a watercolor titled „Don Quixote,“ which is part of the Walters Art Museum collection. It has also been seen on engravings based on his works, such as „A Knight of Gouda.“

Context: The „R“ in the signature refers to the city of Rome, where Fortuny worked and dated some of his works during this period.
Drawing size: 23 cm x 15 cm
