JOMAD | BEYOND THE SURFACE

What lies behind a painting that appears spontaneous, yet leaves nothing to chance?

JOMAD’s work first captivates through colour. But its true fascination begins when we look more closely at how each composition is constructed.
Born in Martinique, the artist has developed a distinctive visual language in which figurative painting, abstraction and urban art influences converge with an extraordinary sensitivity to colour.

Five essential elements offer a deeper understanding of her artistic universe.

Alex Rocca: a trajectory in constant expansion.

From Brazil to the international contemporary art scene, Alex Rocca has developed a distinctive textile language where material, memory and identity converge.

His work has been presented repeatedly at SP-Arte, most recently at ArtRio 2026, as well as at the Museu Oscar Niemeyer, Farol Santander, WG Galeria, Galeria Tato and The House of Arts in Miami, among other significant exhibitions and institutions.

Now represented by OOA Gallery, his practice continues to expand internationally, connecting Brazilian contemporary textile art with new audiences, collectors and institutions.

ART IS NOT MEANT TO STAND STILL.

In Alex Rocca’s work, thread ceases to be merely thread.
Fiber moves beyond surface.
Textile leaves the decorative realm behind to become structure, body, memory and presence.
Rocca does not simply weave forms: he constructs spaces where time itself seems to have been held within the material.

His artistic evolution is also an expansion. Shaped by a background in cinema, scenography and spatial design, his practice has gradually developed into an increasingly sculptural language, one in which the artwork no longer depends on the wall to exist: it occupies space, falls, carries weight, casts shadows, transforms its surroundings and asks the viewer to engage with it physically.

His research enters into dialogue with Bantu, Yoruba and Afro-Brazilian cosmologies, not through literal representation, but through transformation. Rocca draws on memory, transmitted knowledge and ancestral gestures, bringing them into a profoundly contemporary visual language.

It can remember while continuing to move forward.
It can transform an inherited technique into a contemporary question.
Alex Rocca turns matter into living memory.
And memory into a form of future.

BOB-NOSA - THE COURAGE TO CONFRONT VIOLENCE.

On 2 October, the International Day of Non-Violence invites us to consider not only how violence shapes societies, but also how ART can confront it.

Bob-Nosa’s practice is rooted in observation, tension and human experience. Through expressive figures, bold colour and an unmistakable visual language, his works explore injustice, vulnerability, resistance and the enduring need for dignity.

His paintings do not provide easy answers. They create a space in which we are asked to look more closely, to question what we accept, and to recognise the human realities behind conflict and inequality.

Over the years, Bob-Nosa’s uncompromising practice has gained international visibility, reaching collectors and audiences far beyond Nigeria through museum exhibitions, galleries and international art fairs. His work demonstrates how a deeply rooted artistic voice can transcend geography and speak to universal questions of freedom, justice and human dignity.
