Save our Sea Art fundraiser for Save the Med - 1st to 3rd Dec 2024
Contributor: Tamu Gollmer

I was born in Nairobi and spent my childhood there and am influenced still by the wild and raw side to the Africa that I remember. After living in numerous countries including France, L.A. and New Zealand I now live in Mallorca. It feels like home.

My work is an experiment in the visualisation and communication of feelings, involving the human condition, connectivity and sensuality.

These works for sale here are a series of sea like beings….

Contributor: Dan Mandelbaum
Dan Mandelbaum was born in 1994 in Westfield, New Jersey, USA, and is currently based in Mallorca. He graduated from Pratt institute with a BFA in 2016. Primarily working in clay and stone, Dan´s focus in these exhibited works is on abstraction of figures and animals, exploring the various attributes clay has and how it can translate ideas into objects in a relatively playful collage-like way.

Save our Sea Art fundraiser for Save the Med - 1st to 3rd Dec 2024
Contributor: Fiona Bruce
Hi, I'm Fiona. I was born in Malta and raised on a boat sailing around the Mediterranean, later living part time in Kenya. My upbringing at sea and in Africa has produced a great love for nature that constantly inspires my works and I hope to inspire others in the care & respect of our beautiful planet with these pieces. When not working on my art I am part of a marine regeneration foundation called Save the Med. Please look us up.

Save our Sea Art fundraiser for Save the Med - 1st to 3rd Dec 2024
Contributor - Connie Mildner
Connie acquired her passion for glass after making a mosaic table and being encouraged by Sunny Strapp to try it in glass. She spends her time between her studio and the organic farm and so her work is always influenced by nature. For many years Connie ran an organic shop on the farm but closed that to care for her mother who suffered from Alzheimers. Now the farm is used to host Erasmus volunteers who come to learn permaculture. Glass and permaculture are excellent partners as glass is indestructible and always re-usable.

Save our Sea Art fundraiser for Save the Med - 1st to 3rd Dec 2024
Another contributor - Kay Newton
In April 2021 Kay joined a virtual voyage with eXXpedition, an all-female crew, to find out about the ocean's 5 gyres of plastic and the effects of plastic on the human body. As part of the training, Kay carried out citizen science data collection in Colonia de Sant Pere.

Whilst data collecting on Sa Plajeta beach, Kay started a conversation with neighbor Marilena Genovard. Their combined passion for a clean beach led to the creation of ‘Colonia Neta’. The group now has ten volunteers who regularly pick up trash along the coastline from Betlem to Son Serra beach.

Kay wanted to take her learnings from eXXpedition to the next level and with the help of Marilena Genovard and Eleanor Williams, they set about counting all the waste collected on Sa Plajeta Beach of Colonia de San Pere. The 12-month project led to the creation of a 47-page document of findings and suggestions, written in four languages. This document is available for schools, local government, or anyone who is interested.

There were times when picking up plastic became frustrating and overwhelming. It led to the chant ‘No matter what it is, pick it up with LOVE.’ It was whilst beach cleaning in this manner that Kay decided to create art with some of the collected trash.

The ‘I Love Colonia Art’ allows for upcycling of plastic found on the beach. At the same time it creates a ‘Visual Think’ - Where did that piece come from? How can I use less plastic at home? What can I do differently? After all the world we live in is our home and we can do better.
