August 15 marks the celebration of the Nile Flood Festival, an ancient Egyptian holiday that the ancient Egyptians celebrated annually. They considered the Nile River playing a crucial role in their settlement and the building of their civilization. For this reason, they revered the river and held a grand celebration for it during the flood season, known as “Akhet,” when the Nile would bring silt and water for up to three months. They deified the Nile, naming it "Hapi" meaning “the one who overflows with water.” They depicted "Hapi" as a man with a strong body, a prominent chest, and a large belly as a symbol of fertility, carrying the earth’s blessings of food and drink along with symbols of life and prosperity.
