The Tomb That Was Too Big For Its Own Door

In the Valley of the Kings, deep in the West Bank of Luxor, lies the tomb of a king who waited his whole life for the throne.
His name was Merenptah, son of the great Ramesses II. He became king at 60 years old, and he only ruled for 10 years. But he had one mission: to build a tomb worthy of his name.
They carved 135 meters into the mountain. Straight halls. Painted walls from the Book of Gates. A golden sarcophagus waiting in the burial chamber.
But the architects made one fatal mistake.
The granite sarcophagus was 2.13 meters wide.
The doors were 2.12 meters.
They had to break the decorated doorways, drag the coffin in, and rebuild the walls around it. You can still see the scars today.
Some tombs are about gold. This one is about legacy.
