The International Day of Peace, observed by the United Nations on September 21st each year, represents a cornerstone of a global call to uphold the values of coexistence, ceasefire, and non-violence.
This occasion was established by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly in 1981, and its fixed date was adopted in 2001 as a day dedicated to freezing ongoing conflicts and building bridges of international dialogue. The concept of peace on this day is not limited to the silencing of weapons, but extends to being a fundamental condition for achieving sustainable development, promoting trade, and fostering respect for cultural diversity among peoples, considering stability the cornerstone of the advancement and prosperity of societies.
The exhibits of the Saadana Island ship (18th century) illustrate the role of peace and maritime stability in the flourishing of communication between peoples. The artifacts—including Chinese porcelain intended for Middle Eastern markets—reflect the movement of trade across the Red Sea and how international trade networks formed bridges for cultural exchange and coexistence between different cultures.
✨ Here is one of the most important exhibits:
A vessel with a pear-shaped, tapered body followed by a bulging section, a wide-mouthed neck, and a relatively high base. The lower part of the bulging section is decorated with relief carvings.
