لم يكن على متن القوارب المصرية القديمة دور بلا أهمية، فلكل فرد مهمة محددة تسهم في إتمام الرحلة بنجاح، من المشرفين وقادة الطاقم الذين تولوا تنظيم العمل، إلى المجدفين الذين دفعوا المراكب عبر مياه النيل، تناغمت جهود الجميع لضمان سير الرحله بأمان .

Ancient Egyptian boats were carefully organised, with each crew member assigned a specific role. From supervisors and crew leaders to the oarsmen who powered the vessel forward, discipline, coordination, and teamwork were essential to life on the Nile.

These remarkable boat models reveal more than the mechanics of travel. They offer a glimpse into the organisation, leadership, and collective effort that helped shape ancient Egyptian society.

في مصر القديمة، لم يكن نهر النيل مجرد شريان للحياة، بل امتد حضوره إلى معتقدات العالم الآخر أيضًا. فقد آمن المصريون أن رحلة الإنسان لا تنتهي بالموت، بل تستمر في العالم الآخر في طريقها نحو الخلود.

ومن أهم هذه الرحلات كانت رحلة الحج إلى أبيدوس، المدينة المقدسة للمعبود أوزير، سيد العالم الآخر. وقد تكون مثل هذه النماذج رمزًا لهذه الرحلة المقدسة، سواء تمت خلال الحياة أو استمرت رمزيًا بعد الموت.

يعود هذا النموذج الاستثنائي إلى «مسحتي»، حاكم أسيوط في عصر الدولة الوسطى. ويظهر جالسًا داخل مقصورة، يرافقه الخدم والكهنة وطاقم من المجدفين، منطلقًا في رحلة تحفها الحماية الطقسية والدعوات المقدسة.

لم تكن هذه القوارب مجرد نماذج مصغّرة، بل وُضعت في المقابر لتخدم أصحابها في العالم الآخر، معبرةً عن المعتقد المصري القديم بأن الحياة، تستمر إلى العالم الآخر الأبدي.

In ancient Egypt, the Nile was more than a river of life. It also played an important role in beliefs about the afterlife. The ancient Egyptians believed that death was not the end of a person’s journey, but the beginning of a passage that continued beyond this world towards eternity.

One of the most important journeys was the pilgrimage to Abydos, the sacred city of Osiris, god of the afterlife. Boat models like this may have represented a symbolic pilgrimage to that holy place, whether in life or death.

This remarkable model belonged to Mesehti, governor of Asyut during the Middle Kingdom. Seated within a shrine and accompanied by attendants, priests, and a crew of rowers, he embarks on a journey protected by ritual and prayer.

More than simple models, boats like these were placed in tombs to serve their owners in the next world, reflecting the ancient Egyptian belief that life, and the voyage beyond it, would continue for eternity.

بالنسبة للمصريين القدماء، لم يكن الموت نهاية الرحلة، بل بداية لحياة أخرى.

تُجسِّد نماذج المراكب الجنائزية، رحلة عبور المتوفى عبر نهر النيل إلى الجبانة، حيث يسكن الموتى في الغرب، وسط بكاء النائحون و النائحات وتراتيل الكهنة.

لم تكن هذه المراكب مجرد نماذج مصغرة، بل رمزًا للعبور الآمن إلى الأبدية.

For ancient Egyptians, death marked the beginning of a new journey into the beyond.

These funerary boat models depict the voyage across the Nile toward the cemeteries, where the deceased would dwell for eternity. Accompanied by mourners and prayers of priests, the departed moved into the realm of the dead.
More than miniature vessels, they symbolized safe passage into eternity.

استمتع بزيارة المتحف المصري الكبير يومي الأربعاء والسبت، حيث تظل قاعات العرض مفتوحة حتى الساعة 9 مساءً، ويستمر عمل مجمع المتحف حتى الساعة 10 مساءً.

لأن بعض التجارب تستحق أن تأخذ وقتها.

اختتم مركز تدريب توت عنخ آمون بالمتحف المصري الكبير فعاليات ورشة "إحياء الأناقة المصرية: تشكيل الحُلي بأسلاك النحاس المستوحاة من الحضارة المصرية القديمة"، بالتعاون مع المتحف الرقمي للنساء "ذاتك"، في إطار دور المتحف في دعم التنمية المجتمعية وإحياء الحرف التراثية.

استهدفت الورشة تمكين سيدات المجتمع المحلي، من اكتساب مهارات تصميم الحُلي، المستوحاة من الحضارة المصرية القديمة، باستخدام أسلاك النحاس ودمجها مع خامات متنوعة.

وقد تم أصطحاب المتدربات في جولة إرشادية داخل قاعات العرض بالمتحف للتعرف على نماذج من الحُلي، تبعها تدريب عملي، واستمرت الورشة لمدة أربعة أيام، واختُتمت بعرض أعمال المشاركات.

وتأتي الورشة في إطار أهداف المجلس الدولي للمتاحف (ICOM) في تعزيز دور المتاحف كمؤسسات ثقافية في خدمة المجتمع، ومع رؤية مصر 2030 في تمكين المرأة ودعم الحرف التراثية وتعزيز الاستدامة والابتكار المجتمعي.

The Tutankhamun Training Centre at the Grand Egyptian Museum has concluded the workshop “Reviving Egyptian Elegance: Jewellery Design Inspired by Ancient Egypt”, organised in collaboration with the Zatek Women’s Digital Museum as part of the Museum’s commitment to community development and the revival of traditional crafts.

The workshop aimed to empower women from the local community by developing their jewellery design skills through techniques inspired by ancient Egyptian heritage, using copper wire and a variety of materials.

Participants began with a guided visit through the Museum’s galleries to explore examples of ancient jewellery, followed by practical training sessions. The four day workshop concluded with a presentation of the participants’ creations.

The workshop reflects the objectives of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in strengthening the role of museums as cultural institutions that serve society, while supporting Egypt Vision 2030 through women’s empowerment, the preservation of traditional crafts, and the promotion of sustainability and community innovation.

في مثل هذا اليوم قبل ٧٢ عامًا، كُشف عن أحد أعظم كنوز مصر القديمة، التي كانت مدفونة بجوار الهرم الأكبر.

ظل مركب خوفو الأولى مدفونًا لأكثر من ٤٥٠٠ عام، ليبقى شاهدًا استثنائيًا على براعة المصري القديم في الهندسة والصناعة، وعلى معتقداته المرتبطة بالرحلة إلى الأبدية.

ولا تزال هذه القطعة الفريدة، التي تُعد من أقدم وأهم المراكب الكاملة المكتشفة في العالم، تروي فصولًا مدهشة من تاريخ الملك خوفو والحضارة المصرية القديمة.

اليوم، نُحيي ذكرى اكتشاف أثر استثنائي ما زال يُلهم العالم حتى الأن.

Seventy two years ago today, one of Ancient Egypt’s greatest discoveries emerged from beneath the sands of Giza.

Carefully buried beside the Great Pyramid of Khufu for more than 4,500 years, Khufu’s First Boat remains one of the oldest and most remarkable full size vessels ever discovered.

A masterpiece of ancient engineering, craftsmanship, and belief, the boat continues to offer extraordinary insight into the world of King Khufu and the journey to eternity.

Today, we commemorate the discovery of a timeless treasure that continues to inspire wonder across generations.
