The Exhibition is the complete work of the contemporary Costume Designer & Visual Artist Nermine Said. Through which she promulgated all her 7 Seals in one comprehensive costume installations exhibition. KHOTOUM, literal
ly means seals in Arabic; it stands for woman’s liberation cause and her struggle to earn her existential rights in a back-warded society submerged in ancient norms, traditions, and belief systems. KHOTOUM discretely reveals some of the possible rather implausible interpretations behind the transformation of those norms, traditions, and beliefs into Taboo forbidden to approach. Moreover, KHOTOUM; the 7 Seals lights up how those taboos are shrouded by religious justifications and unduly social conservatism. Those seals have been locked for quite long time, hence, normalized KHOTOUM is a bold attempt to unlock those seals by exposing those taboos and posing a visual and intellectual discussion in the hope to spread more awareness about women’s right to exist in a non-sexist, non-judgmental and prejudicial society. KHOTOUM : The Origin 2014
KHOTOUM is a costume installation & Photography Exhibition inspired by the great Egyptian Painter, Abd El-Hady el Gazzar. The Exhibition is about Women, and for Women, who still suffer daily from Oppression and social strains that prevent them from becoming who they wanna be and how. It highlights issues that are considered Taboos in a “conservative” society. Issues that have been locked in seals and long forgotten, like child marriage, Women as objects or tools, the deprivation of self expression and hypocrisy of the society. KHOTOUM is unlocking those seals in a fearless attempt to expose , and discuss those Taboos hoping to spread more awareness about women’s right to live and exist in a non-racist, non-judgmental society. ختوم معرض انستوليشن أزياء وفوتوغرافيا مستوحى من أعمال الفنان المصرى عبد الهادى الجزار. المعرض عن المرأة وللمرأة التى مازالت تعافر فى مجتمع يفرد عليها قيود ويحدد حريتها ويكبت رغبتها فى التعبير عن نفسها
ختوم: تعبر عن وجهة نظر الفنانة فى التعبير عن قضايا المرأة
وحقوقها فى مجتمعنا "المحافظ" الذى مازال يرى مناقشة مثل تلك
القضايا نوع من المحرمات. فإذا أردنا تناول قضايا مثل زواج
القاصرات، المرأة كجسد، أو عدم القدرة على التعبير وازدواجية
معايير المجتمع لوجدنا نزعة لإصدار أحكام أخلاقية على من
يحاولون مناقشة تلك القضايا و نزعة لتقويض حرية التعبير
وتبريرها كحفاظ على العادات و التقاليد . "ختوم" تخوض هذه
التجربة "الجريئة" لإلقاء الضوء ومناقشة تلك المحرمات. وتأتي تلك التجربة الفنية إيمانا بأهمية القضية ونشر الوعي بحق المرأة فى
العيش فى مجتمع غير متحيز أو مدعي الفضيلة.
