“There are countless important women in our history who deserve monuments in exactly the same way.”

A bronze equestrian statue honoring Estonian women’s movement pioneer Alma Ostra-Oinas now stands in central Tallinn. The conceptual work by Flo Kasearu originates from the sculpture series “Monumental Neglect,” first presented at Vabamu’s exhibition “Out from Behind the Stove!”, curated by Piret Karro.

Traditionally reserved for male military figures, equestrian monuments rarely commemorate women. Kasearu’s work reimagines this tradition through the legacy of women who shaped Estonian history.

Thank you ERR, Siim Lõvi, and R**t Weidebaum for covering the project.

Inga Meldre “Slings.” at Kuldīga Regional Museum
Until 31.05.2026

The exhibition reveals painting as an activity with an image – its creation, transformation and rewriting over time, changing working approaches and forms. The body of work is united by an interest in materials, surfaces, methods, the origin of pigments, layering and the presence of historical forms in contemporary painting. “Slings” invites the viewer to experience painting as a slow, bodily and attentive process, in which meaning arises in the course of the work, in the rhythm and resistance of the image.

Visual design by Hikari Nishida.
