Today, we remember Viera Collaro, who would have celebrated her 80’th birthday.
Viera Collaro (1946 - 2026) was a pioneering figure in Danish light art. For more than five decades, she developed a distinctive artistic language in which light, colour, space, and perception merged into works that moved between the material and the immaterial. Through neon, LEDs, photography, painting, and sculpture, she explored light not only as a physical phenomenon, but also as an existential experience.
A defining foundation of her practice was the project 1000 colors, developed together with Niels Nedergaards in 1970s. This investigation of colour relationships and intensity became central to her later work with light as a living and transformative medium. Through monumental, site -specific Installationsview in public spaces, she left a lasting mark on the Danish art scene and countless people who encountered her work.
