Admission is always free to O—Overgaden.

Situated in the heart of Copenhagen, O—Overgaden has for more than three decades been among the leading non-profit art institutions in Denmark with an irreverent program displaying both emerging local and international voices of contemporary art. The program comprehends around 8-10 grand-scale exhibitions a year as well as a breadth of artist talks, performances, film screenings, seminars, and discussions. Established in 1986 and situated by a canal in one of central Copenhagen’s historic neighborhoods, O—Overgaden occupies two large floors of a 19th century building which used to house a printing workshop.

~ CURRENT EXHIBITION ~ “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE” ~ Work by Elisabeth Molin

As part of the group exhibition “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE”, visual artist Elisabeth Molin contributes with the work “like a fatigue, like a mirror crescent".

Elisabeth Molin’s sculptural work "like a fatigue, like a mirror crescent" (2020) consists of a metal clock mounted on the wall. Instead of a clock face, a mirror sits inside the housing. The work and its title reference crip time, a concept from disability communities and disability studies describing how sick and disabled people move through time at a slower or less predictable pace, underscored here by the absence of the clock face at the center of the artwork.

~ CURRENT EXHIBITION ~ “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE” ~ Work by Kasper Hesselbjerg

As part of the group exhibition “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE”, visual artist and writer Kasper Hesselbjerg contributes with the series “Six Kawaii Organs”.

Kasper Hesselbjerg’s series "Six Kawaii Organs" (2026) consists of photographs of six different chicken organs. Each organ has a cartoon-like face drawn in mayonnaise, giving the organ a somewhat cute expression. This cuteness—kawaii—stands in contrast to the raw organs and the industry these animals come from. The work questions how we separate ourselves from, for instance, the chicken we eat, and conversely, how we understand our own organs as part of our selfhood.

NOW ON SHOW ~ “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE” ~ Work by Bernd Oppl in collaboration with Georgina Kleege and Mara Mills

As part of the group exhibition “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE”, artist Bernd Oppl in collaboration with scholars Georgina Kleege and Mara Mills contribute with the work “Eye Tracker”.

"Eye Tracker" (2026) consists of a metal table engraved with medical drawings and visualizations of the artist’s visual impairment. Visitors are invited to trace by touch the map of the eye and visual apparatus engraved into the surface. Two small monitors are placed on the table and connected to headphones. The screens show recordings from sessions made using a custom-developed eye tracker, which captures eye movements and transforms them into sound. These recordings are accompanied by a conversation between scholars Georgina Kleege and Mara Mills, who reflect on eye tracking as a cultural technique and its relationship to visual impairment and disability.

~ NOW ON SHOW ~ “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE” ~ Works by Bobbi-Johanne Østervang

As part of the group exhibition “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE”, visual artist and author Bobbi-Johanne Østervang contributes with the works "Something I Dreamed", "In the Morning of My Wild Times", and "Postcards from Cosmic Friends".

Bobbi-Johanne Østervang’s works for the exhibition unfold between text and drawing/painting on and within various media. Emerging from dreams and trance-like states, the works are created as postcards from journeys on other planes, where disabilities and administrative systems of the physical world pose no obstacle. The works give form to dreams or visions that expand and connect the intimate with the cosmos—simultaneously poetic and critical.

The work "Something I Dreamed" (2026) is a series of drawings and watercolor paintings on dried Monstera and rhubarb leaves, just as the series "In the Morning of My Wild Times" (2026) consists of excerpts from a long poem written in watercolor on fallen leaves from a dove tree, which the artist has collected and pressed. The leaves are presented alongside a collection of pastels, which are excerpts from the series "Postcards from Cosmic Friends" (2026).

The drawings and textual excerpts revolve around transformations and transitions between different bodily and mental states, both imagined and concrete.

Bruno Zhu’s exhibition at O—Overgaden is a collaboration with Huset for Kunst og Design (HFKD) in Holstebro where the sibling exhibition by the artist, “Men at Work”, is simultaneously on show, disseminating Zhu’s project across the country.

The exhibition at HFKD is on view through 14 February 2027.

~ CURRENT EXHIBITION ~ “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE” ~ Work by Frida Lisa Carstensen Jersø

As part of the group exhibition “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE”, visual artist Frida Lisa Carstensen Jersø contributes with the sculptural installation “Ellen Marie, Bertine, Troels, Rebecca, anonym, Linda, Kristine, Anna, anonym og Tina”.

Frida Lisa Carstensen Jersø’s sculptural installation ”Ellen Marie, Bertine, Troels, Rebecca, anonymous, Linda, Kristine, Anna, anonymous, and Tina” (2026), consists of bronze casts of spinal implants belonging to people with spinal cord injuries. Cast from medical scans, each differs in size and shape, emphasizing the individuality of disability and the varied experiences behind medical intervention. The work is echoed by the sculpture The Broken Back (2026), cast from Jersø’s own spinal implant, placed in the cityscape at the location of the accident that led to her paralysis.

~ CURRENT EXHIBITION ~ “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE” ~ Work by Victor Vejle

As part of the group exhibition “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE”, visual artist Victor Vejle contributes with the sculptural work “Sign”.

Victor Vejle’s site-specific installation ”Sign” (2026) places a set of wooden stairs, winding up into nowhere, in the entryway of the exhibition space. Sourced from a construction company in Poland, the readymade structure extends the entrance’s existing architectural barrier. As both obstacle and symbol, the work questions accessibility and the promise of stairs as structures of movement, progress, and overcoming.

~ NOW ON SHOW ~ “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE” ~ Work by Panetha Abareshi

As part of the group exhibition “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE”, artist Panetha Abareshi contributes with the work “NEW ARTIFACTS [ii]”

”NEW ARTIFACTS [ii] (2025”) by Panteha Abareshi consists of six bleached vertebrae pierced with numerous pieces of metal jewelry. The bone appears purified, like an anatomical exhibit, but the piercings make it ornamental—something to be looked at and wanted, slipping between speci- men and spectacle. The vertebra is the body at its most reduced, stripped of flesh, identity, and autonomy. It is also an image of pain that cuts to the bone, and a suggestion that self-inflicted pain may be one way of negotiating the pain of illness and of being looked at.

~ CURRENT EXHIBITION ~ “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE” ~ Work by Alex Dolores Salerno

As part of the group exhibition “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE”, artist Alex Dolores Salerno contributes with the installation “semilla santa”,

“semilla santa” (2025-ongoing) is a site-specific installation made from chains of green (unroasted) and roasted coffee beans installed as a curtain that marks the entrance to the exhibition. Asssembled together with brass onto chains that resembles prayer beads and functions as a stimming tool, the work foregrounds neurodivergent embodiment, sensory grounding, spirituality, and sustainability, while confronting coffee’s violent colonial history and challenging coffee’s association with capitalist productivity and exploitation.
