Rare authentic engraving from 1675 depicting the black painter known as “ Higiemon” Depicted with pearl earring holding a paintbrush. His origin is uncertain but is believed to have been an African slave from the West Indies that was brought to Italy and worked in aristocratic household, whom might have assisted with his artistic career. Records show that he lived and worked as a painter in Vienna, Italy circa 1670-80. And that he chose the name “Higiemon” as a tribute to Haimon, an 5th-century BC Ancient Greek painter. Known for his black-figure vase paintings.

This particular work was painted by Jais Nielsen in 1917 while he was employed as a sculptor at the G.A. Eifrig pottery factory from 1915-1918. This charcoal is the earliest known version of the famous Jais Nielsens Judas series. He made another Judas kiss sketch for ceramic plate in 1919 and later used a similar Judas kiss image for his famous 1922 (Krigervasen) The Warrior Vase, while employed at the Copenhagen porcelain factory.

Axel Bredsdorff studied at the Artists free study school where he worked under Kristian Zahrtmann and from 1907 he studied in France at the Colarossi academy in Paris. Axel Bredsdorff belonged to the new groups of artists that experimented with early cubism and expressionism. Unlike many of his contemporaries, who adopted the new pure French cubistic and expressionistic styles, Axel Bredsdorff chose to continue with the Northern Light School of painting and devolved his own Scandinavian take on expressionism using the lights and colors of Skagen.

Extraordinary double portrait, featuring the face of Finnish impressionist painter, Ingrid Ruin (1881–1956) together with the eye of her teacher, Swedish impressionist painter, Anders Zorn ( 1860-1920).
The oil was made at Anders Zorn's atelier in Mora, Sweden, during the period 1905-1911. Ingrid Ruin lived with Anders Zorn in Mora where she was both his student and personal assistant. This particular oil functions as a double portrait painted in an optical Illusion so it can be hung upside down.
