People often think networking is about collecting business cards.

It isn’t.

It’s about building trusted relationships before opportunities arise.

Some of the best conversations I’ve had over a drink have led to property acquisitions, art collections, business partnerships, interior design projects and lifelong friendships.

Thank you to and everyone who helped me make these evenings memorable. Looking back, they were never just networking events they were rooms full of people investing in relationships.

The next great opportunity usually begins with a simple conversation.

1950s: The Pioneers
The sound system culture was born out of necessity in the late 1940s and 1950s, as communities sought affordable ways to enjoy music without the cost of live bands or jukeboxes. We pay homage to Tom the Great Sebastian, the namesake of the
“Sound System” and the first to operate a commercially viable setup using high-fidelity amplifiers.
Alongside him stands Duke Reid the Trojan, a former police officer whose
“Trojan” sound system brought military-level showmanship and prestige to the scene, famously announcing his arrival at dances with the theatrical firing of shots.

ANDY WARHOL
Marilyn No. 30, 1967
Color screenprint
From Warhol’s celebrated Marilyn portfolio, this screenprint reimagines a 1953 publicity still from Niagara through five layered, deliberately off-register color screens. It remains one of Pop art’s defining meditations on fame and artifice.

Russian icon depicting St. Nicholas the thaumaturge sided by Jesus and the Virgin., 19th century

Height x width x depth: 54 x 45 x 3 cm.

St. Nicholas is among the most venerated saints in Russia. The saint’s story is accompanied by a very rich hagiographic literature. The saint from birth observed the fasts imposed by Orthodox rule, refusing breast milk until sunset on Wednesdays and Fridays. While still an infant he stood perfectly on his feet. Once an adult, he had received a substantial inheritance from his parents which he distributed to the poor. Particularly popular is the legend that a man, who had fallen into poverty to the point of wanting to make meretricians of his three daughters, was saved by the saint who threw three bags containing gold out of his window. From this would descend the custom to give Christmas gifts to children: St. Klaus is nothing more than a deformation of the saint’s name in the Dutch language. St. Nicholas is also remembered for intervening several times on behalf of unjustly accused people.
