Join us for the Copenhagen Photo Festival where you’re invited to the participatory opening of “The Future is Not Neutral” featuring photographic works by Anne Schönharting and Thomas Suchy. The exhibition at our gallery encourages visitors to look beyond photography as a record of the present and reflect on its role as a force that influences what comes next.

Artefacts of Abstraction

New Zealand photographer Michael Collinge explores time on a geological scale, transforming layers of ancient rock and sediment into abstract visual records. Shot in Kazakhstan’s Boszhira Valley, these works reimagine the echo of millennia through a lens of active composition.

In “Artefacts of Abstraction”, Collinge explores how photography can move beyond the instant to engage with time on a geological scale. Shot in the remote Boszhira Valley in western Kazakhstan—once part of the ancient Tethys Ocean—the works draw on landscapes shaped over millions of years.

Layers of rock, sediment, and erosion form precise, measurable records of time. Yet these are not presented as documentation alone. Through abstraction, layering, and subtle traces of movement, Collinge transforms this geological evidence into visual constructions—where the echo of millennia is reshaped, extended, and reimagined through photographic form.

Here, time is not simply recorded, but actively composed.
