The artist’s fascination lies in the enchanting and ever-changing nature of materials, exemplified in Peer Boehm‘s meticulous ballpoint pen creations. Boehm demonstrates a masterful fusion of commonplace elements, seamlessly intertwining paper and ballpoint pen in his works. Drawing from historical photographs, he strategically incorporates vacant areas within his pieces, elevating ordinary materials to a visual plane that resonates with the viewer’s individual recollections. This transformative impact reaches new heights when Boehm selects unconventional surfaces, like aged maps or historically laden papers marked with his own annotations. These choices infuse additional layers of significance into his art, enriching the viewer’s experience with historical depth and personal connection.

These two artists ingeniously capture the essence of everyday objects, seamlessly translating them from the tangible world into a pictorial realm using paper as their medium. Employing the almost-forgotten technique of frottage, the Artists revive the tactile quality of paper, once on the brink of oblivion. The intricate process involves capturing the details of torn envelopes on this resurrected medium.
The resultant filigree drawings, with their delicate and detailed characteristics, carry a poetic aura that serves as a poignant counterpoint to the utilitarian origins of window envelopes and blueprint paper. It’s a nuanced exploration of how the artist transforms these materials into an elevated form of expression, breathing new life and significance into the seemingly commonplace elements of our daily lives.

Starsky Brines, a mixed-media artist, creates vibrant and imaginative works influenced by Latin American figurative art and COBRA aesthetics. His pieces explore aspects of human nature, featuring hybrid beings engaging in everyday and surreal activities.
Brines uses bold colors and distinct outlines reminiscent of comic books, children’s drawings, and graffiti to delve into contrasts and interplay between man and nature. Noteworthy is the inclusion of Brines’s art in esteemed collections such as the Burger Collection, the Koo House Museum of Art & Design Collection, and the National Museum of China.

Felix Becker employs paper as a canvas, applying layers of monochromatic, sculptural-like colors.
The Artist applies monochromatic, impasto-like layers of color onto the paper, breaking them up with distinct focal points and selectively removing elements. This technique, reminiscent of sculptural methods, not only highlights the underlying colors but also introduces a narrative dimension to the otherwise minimalistic paintings.
Through this unique approach, the artist effectively transforms the ostensibly two-dimensional sheet of paper into a vibrant color object. The inherent delicacy of foldable paper gives way to a more robust and condensed entity, which Becker presents suspended within gallery boxes. This method imbues the paper with a newfound solidity, turning it into an engaging and visually compelling three-dimensional element in the artistic space.

(C6H100s)n I The Art of Handling Paper
3.November - 22. December

Isabelle Borges delves into the patterns and structures present in the visible world, particularly focusing on the geometry within spaces and the resulting spatial dynamics. Her art creates visual spaces that expand and contract, suggesting moving spatial fabrics.
In her predominantly abstract pieces, Borges initiates her three-dimensional objects using paper as a foundation. The interplay between spatial illusion and the flatness of shapes is a constant theme in her artistic body of work. Rather than constructing forms solely from pictorial elements, Borges draws inspiration from seemingly random structures encountered in urban environments, nature, or mass media.
Her artistic range is extensive, encompassing diverse aesthetics and content. This includes historical references, perceptual experiments, discursive inquiries, and purely subjective approaches in her exploration of art.

The artist, Leonie Mertes, experiments with innovative drawing techniques using classic materials—natural white 190g drawing paper and HB to 2H graphite pencils. These tools become a medium for exploring the intricate relationship between graphite drawing and its surface. One approach involves releasing fibers from the paper through short, closely spaced strokes, creating a tactile, felt-like surface in contrast to the paper's smoothness. In another method, Mertes questions the drawing-carrier dynamic by literally penetrating the paper's surface, enlarging the opening into a pocket. As the pencil releases graphite within, delicate line drawings resembling shimmering veins emerge, accentuating the paper's delicacy and vulnerability, heightened by the inevitable rises and breaks in the process.

(C6H100s)n I The Art of Handling Paper
3.November - 22. December

Artjom Chepovetsky's recent works on paper, crafted during a residency at Printers Proof in Copenhagen, showcase experimentation and innovation. Venturing into intaglio printing for the first time, Artist expanded his color palette, utilizing soft pastels and vibrant tonal shades in collaboration with Printer's Proof. Gravure printing endowed his colors with a velvety density and softness.

His approach unfolds with a sense of humor, evident in the intricate build-up of the picture. Color stripes take on a life of their own, sometimes expanding and attempting to break free from the composition, while at other times, they hold on and cling to neighboring partners, hesitant to detach and fall.

Exploring object-like qualities, Chepovetskyy incorporated collage techniques into his gravure project, resulting in intricate sculptural compositions. Meticulously working with paper embossing, he highlighted hidden folds and accentuated edges, creating a play of revealed and concealed details.

The artist engages numerous black-and-white photocopies of his passport photo, produced on variously sized standard copy paper, both as the content and material for his objects and paintings.
Additionally, he utilizes this self-replicated imagery in the creation of his artworks.

Goekhan Erdogan employs a method involving gluing together paper into blocks of varying sizes, employing diverse woodworking techniques. This process yields sculptures resembling stone with marble-like surfaces, installations composed of layered wood and paper, and fragmentary relief portraits. Despite their appearance, these portraits consist of thousands of laminated images of Erdogan's face. The artist's work is the culmination of extensive and continuous research into the subject of self-portraiture, encompassing philosophical, psychological, sociological, art-historical, and political dimensions with equal significance.

Haleh Rediaian's paper works involve precise lines and basic geometric shapes, overlaid with random irregularities, creating patterns and order. Using old notebooks and calendars with existing patterns, she introduces variations. Close inspection reveals subtle offsets and unfilled check paper, drawing attention to breaks that alter perception. Rediaian explores the interplay of order, chaos, repetition, and fragmentation, driven by her artistic experimentation. This is evident in the exhibition featuring woven paper works inspired by her textile pieces, a product of her summer residency at the Haus des Papiers in Berlin. One of the
woven works on paper is shown in the exhibition „Art of handling paper“.

In the exhibition (C6H1005)n I
The Art of Handling Paper, we present works by 11 artists who show us the sheer of infinite possibilities of processing, reusing or manipulating paper.
Our aim with this exhibition is to traverse a creative spectrum, showcasing works that utilize paper as a canvas for graphic and painterly expression, while also delving into the realm of intensive material exploration and thematic interpretation, resulting in sculptural masterpieces that reveal paper as an art form in its own right.

„Ever since paper has existed, people have been fascinated by this material. Paper itself has embodied tenderness and strength, fragility and solidity, as it is haptically attractive. No other material in art is as sensual, present and
changeable."
House of Paper, Annette Berr, Berlin

LESS MATTER MORE WAVES
Artists:
Nadja Adelmann | Alyona Volkova

As a further unifying element, the motif of time runs like a thread through the works of both artists.
While Alyona Volkova wants to capture the moment of timelessness in her paintings and sculptures,
Nadia Adelmann often uses the infinite repetition of movement in her sculptures to create this feeling
of detachment from time itself and thus enable the viewer to immerse himself in
the work.
Both artists transform the waves of their feelings and thoughts into matter which allows
a contemplative approach to resonate with people and create waves in them in turn.

Suwon Lee

Suwon Lee (Venezuela/South Korea, *1977) reminds us in her multi-part work "Body of Light" that female identity is a constant struggle for balance between self-perception and social coding. In this series of photographs based on self-portraits, Lee not only explores the moment of privacy and publicity, but also questions her own body image and female identity, as well as her own multicultural identity as a Venezuelan born of Korean parents. Lee works primarily in photography, focusing on landscapes and cityscapes. Her images attempt to show the relationship between the physical body and the natural world by emphasising space, time and light.

Lee received her BA in French from the American University of Paris in 2001. In 2001-2002, she studied photography at the Speos Photography Institute in Paris. In 2006, she attended the PHotoEspaña Masterclass with Axel Hütte. In 2008 she won a grant from the Cisneros Foundation and in 2009 she was selected for the Younger than Jesus Directory. Meanwhile, her work has been presented internationally in museums and galleries and has found its way into the collections of major metropolitan museums such as MOMA New York, Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, CIFO Miami and Museu de Arte Brasileira da Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado.

Alejandro Monge

The artistic work of Alejandro Monge (Spain, b. 1988) is marked by a socio-critical perspective - and so his masterfully crafted sculptures on show in the exhibition can also be read as a critical examination of the image of female beauty. While his small resin cast Little Shibuya critically questions the image of girls and women in a youth culture influenced by Japanese manga, the three in*******al portraits of women (Inverse Shape), which appear to be carved from stone, poetically address the question of the origin of life and beauty. Alejandro Monge's work is currently characterised by its technical quality and conceptual language, which addresses universal themes such as the value of money from an ironic and critical view of the world around him. Painting, sculpture, installation... A multifaceted artist, Monge is also known for his meticulous works, full of detail and with a technical and aesthetic quality that always attracts the viewer's attention.

Alejandro Monge was trained at the Zaragoza School of Fine Arts. He went on to show his work in national museums, foundations and art galleries, where he received his first recognition. He has exhibited in places such as the Camon Aznar Museum in Zaragoza (official museum of Goya), where he was awarded the Prize of the Delegation of the Spanish Government, or the Casa de Vacas del Retiro in Madrid, where he received an honourable mention in the BMW Awards, among others. His works can be found in various private and public collections, such as the Maria Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation; Lluís Bassat Foundation; Vila Casas Foundation; Fran Daurel Foundation, Government of Spain; Pablo Serrano Museum, Government of Spain; Aragon Ibercaja Foundation; CAI Foundation and Lluis Coromina Foundation.

Ana Dévora

In the exhibition "The Female", Ana Dévora (Spain, b. 1987) addresses the increasing taboo of the naked body and sexuality in the media. In her project 'Pattern Interrupt', she attempts to break established patterns in order to achieve freedom and creativity, questioning social stereotypes and models imposed by the media and social networks. Through her work, Dévora aims to raise awareness of how censorship and self-censorship can limit the representation of naked bodies in the digital world and promote greater diversity and acceptance, as the censorship of certain body parts, such as female ni***es and genitalia, can actually reinforce the sexualisation and tabooing of the female body. More broadly, her work analyses the impact of technology and media on our daily lives and our relationship with nature. The idea that we are entering an increasingly digitalised world and that we are interacting more with screens than in person is an undeniable reality. Her work also focuses on how digital media presents us with patterns of behaviour and ideas that society and individuals end up adopting as their own, programming our thoughts, dreams and behaviours.

Ana Devora has established herself as an internationally renowned cinematographer and visual artist, whose skills include cinematography, editing, photography and painting. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, specialising in Photography and Audiovisuals, from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and has attended prestigious cinematography and graphic design workshops at various institutions in Madrid, Italy and New York. Her artistic work has been exhibited in prestigious museums, art spaces and festivals such as Museo La Neomudejar de Madrid, Centro Cultural Conde Duque, White Box, La Casa Encidida, Festival de Cannes, Festival de Videoarte Internacional de Ferrara, IVAHM and InShadow'17.

Ela Fidalgo

In recent years there has been a growing debate about the representation of the female n**e in art. There is a growing awareness of the need for a more inclusive, diverse and respectful representation of bodies and gender identities. Artists, feminist art movements and activists are advocating a re-evaluation of traditional representations of the female n**e and calling for a greater diversity of body representations and perspectives. Ela Fidalgo (Palma de Mallorca, b. 1993) opens up a new perspective on the beauty of imperfection and diversity in her large-format paintings, which she not only works with acrylic paint, but also embroiders and assembles from individual pieces of fabric using a patchwork technique. Her work encompasses painting, sculpture and installation.

In her paintings, Fidalgo gives form to emotions that manifest from her universe full of questions about human behaviour beyond the realms of everyday life and thought. All of the artist's production is strongly linked to her stage in fashion, which she applies to her work through embroidery. Fidalgo received a scholarship to study fashion design at the IED Fashion Lab Madrid, where she won prizes such as the Balenziaga Award, The Amsterdam Global Conference on Sustainability and Transparency. In her third year she won the Fashion Talent award at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, and in 2018 she was a finalist at the Festival d'Hyeres. Since 2016 she has focused on her artistic career, since then she has been presented in various solo and group exhibitions, currently she has a solo exhibition at La Bibi Gallery, Palma de Mallorca.
